Snowshoe in Mid-March

We were planning on making a ski trip out west from March 12-17. We've had some issues come up and work, and were not going to be able to make it any longer, but were looking at Snowshoe as a possibility for a closer, shorter trip.

My question as we've never done the mid-Atlantic locations during this type of year, is there still usually a decent bit of snow at that time? I would hate to book the trip only for it to turn out to be a bust.

mid-Atlantic locations

In our view Snowshoe is one of the very best mid-Atlantic Ski Resorts.

In Mid- March, one often encounters "corn snow," which is very easy skiing.

Moguls may be a bit soft in PM.

Weather -- too many variables to predict.

May be sunny w possibility of skiing in shorts.

May be rainy, and that means warm skiing -- wear Gortex.

May be foggy on the slopes - but ski anyway.

Decent Après Ski scene.

We always recommend bringing your own Gear (at least boots.)

Will not be Colorado or Utah, but you probably will find a new favorite,

Right now, even though all but 2 slopes are open, the snow conditions aren't that great. It has been very warm and rainy the past couple of weeks. Of course, you can never tell what the weather will be like in March, and my thinking is we will get pounded with snow in Feb. and March. We are due! Here is a link to some webcams on the mountain. See all the bare spots? It's like a Spring day today!

Unless you are big time skiers with your own gear, ...then rent!

Sorry, probably didn't help much...but we can't predict the weather, right?!

Skiing at Canaan Valley at that time is normally the best time to go.

LV Sun:

We do have a ski week scheduled for February, and as experienced skiiers, we shall bring all of our own ski gear.

Now IF the groomers are at work.

Sure hope you ended up booking your trip to Snowshoe! Conditions should be optimal for the next 10-12 days. Lots of natural and man made snow coming!
