We are flying into Rome (FCO I believe) and need to get to Marina di Camerota. Looking for advice since it's a long drive and traffic in August will be heavy. How easy is it to get there by train? We're fine even if we can only get as far as Naples by train and rent a car there, although I'd like to get as far south as we can and then still be able to rent a car for the week we're in Marina di Camerota.

17 helpful votes Do not even think of trying to drive in Naples. You can take a fast train from Rome to Salerno, and pick up a rental car there.

49 helpful votes I would go to Salerno by train and rent from Hertz or one of the other agencies with an office on or near the square in front of the station. Beware though of Sundays because usually it's only possible to rent from airport locations on Sundays. Go to www.trenitalia.com/tcom-en and enter Fiumicino Aeroporto as the origin and Salerno as the destination. Enter a number in the hour field (24 hour clock) near the time you'd like to leave the airport. Click on the "Duration" column to sort by the fastest schedules. Be aware of rental office closing times for lunch and at the end of the day.
