Charlottesville Winery

Hello, I am looking to plan a romantic day for my girlfriend. I want to do a couple wine tastings and maybe a picnic and great dinner. She is a beginner to wine and prefers sweet wines. Any suggestions?

White Hall usually has a sweet wine or two. If you go to http://www.virginiawine.org/ you'll find out what wineries are in the Charlottesville area, and which ones serve food or allow picnics. There are nice views at King and at Pollak.

North east of Charlottesville on sr 20 you have Barboursville Vinyards (www.barboursvillewine.com) Their Palladio Restaurant offers lunch, Dinner and a winery dinner. They also have an Inn. Just a mile across from them on US 33 east if Horton Vinyards. 22tango gave you a good websie to check

Veritas is my absolute favorite. (http://www.veritaswines.com/visit.htm) You can order a picnic lunch from them, check out their online shop for options and to order. Not far from there is Cardnial Point, which is a small tasting room and nothing really to write home about, but I was pleasantly surprised by their wines, and I think your girlfriend would enjoy their wines. Though I haven't eaten at Barboursville, heard great things about Palladio, and their wines are top notch! Not sure when you want to go, but King has free polo matches on Sundays during the summer and you can bring picnics and buy wine for that, supposed to be a fun event.
