Can it snow in park city in September ?

We are planning a trip this month to Park City but wonder if it could possible snow in September? We are from the D.C. area and still experiencing warm days so are looking for a cool Autumn vacation to hike.

It can snow almost any time of the year in Park City. We lived there for 12 years. One year, we had snow on the 4th of July. But generally, September is one of the nicest times of the year in Park City. A rare snowstorm in September won't hang around long.

I'm seeing varying forecasts for next week including Weather Underground showing snow late next week!

Yes, it does look like it will be wet at the end of next week. The forecast I'm looking at says a mix of snow showers and rain on Thursday. The snow showers would be overnight or early in the day. It's been very warm here. Any snow will melt on contact on the roads and won't hang around much on the ground. What are your concerns?

Just concerned that for our 5 day vacation, 3 of those days will be very wet and rainy. Not exactly what we had hoped for.

I know its disappointing to not get perfect weather on your vacation. But its weather, you cant do anything about it. our wearher changes fast anyway. We dont usually have three solid days of steady rain. It might rain or snow a bit and then an hour later the sun comes out.

We have an old saying. If you dont like the weather in the Rockies, wait five minutes.

Agree, if you don't like the weather in Utah. Wait a minute. It will change. It's unlikely that it will be a steady rain. It's been said that there's no bad weather, just bad gear.

I wouldn't put too much stock into a weather forecast that far out. I haven't seen it snow in Park CIty in Sept for a long time. It does typically snow in Sept in elevation above 10,000 feet, but PC is about 3,000 feet lower. It wouldn't last long.

I would consider some backup plans just in case. It can actually be a very nice time for a scenic drive, as it adds a layer of drama in the skies. Salt Lake City is a hop and skip away and you could go the Natural History Museum of Utah, Red Butte Gardens, Temple Square, Liberty Park and Tracy Aviary, etc.

Don't make this a worry point. We do not get the type of weather to which you are accustomed. Yes, we had eight inches of snow on July 4 for our daughter's wedding 24 years ago. So freaky things can happen. But it's highly unusual. Very rare to have weather that would impact the entirety of a three or four day trip.

Have fun.

If you have winter conditions in Park City - unlikely a Plan B is to spend time outdoors near Salt Lake which is lower elevation - Some options: Antelope Island, Draper Corner Canyon, Little and Big Cottonwood Canyon, Provo Canyon, and many Salt Lake Foothill hikes. Don't worry - you will have plenty of great options even if the weather is a bit cooler than you had expected.
