Hello hotel Sensimar Riviera Benalmedena booked through Tui

We booked this accommodation for early Feb 2018 through the above travel company !

After the booking with confirmation of the booking they told us there is extensive building work going on at the hotel next door , and we will hear and see building work and the noise. After contacting TUI they say they are unable to put us to the other side of the hotel to avoid this on our holiday . They say we can upgrade to another room around the other side of the building but we would need to pay for this at nearly 200 pounds for this . I would never book with this company again and they say the hotel cant tell which room we will be in until the week before we go , disappointment and disgust with this company it seems it is just another way to get more money from the customer and in February we are sure it isn't high season so there would be rooms available all we can do is cancel and get a refund !!!

To be fair, it is not the fault of Hotel Riviera that their neighbour is undertaking noisy demolition and construction work. It is not in their interest to have such disturbance.

However, I was alongside the Villa Sol site (where the work is occurring) today and am of the view that most of the noisier work (demolition and stripping) is nearly complete. Construction will, of course, last for a considerable time beyond. However it will be quieter although not silent.

A construction site will also not be a pretty sight (I escaped the site pun) but, to be fair, the Villa Sol wasn't an especially sight anyway.

The Riviera is a very popular hotel and really is busy all year round. I can understand they cant guarantee which rooms guests will be in, also it is half of the rooms that overlook the site so it is a 50% chance you will get one. Perhaps better to rquest the move rather than let it spoil your stay. Then again how much time do you spend in your room.

Building work will go on until end of may at least. Tui know this and should put it in the advert not inform you after booking.

How long ago did you book? There's been warnings on here since the work started over 3 months ago.

Other people were offered a move to another hotel. Weren't you?

Depends on when you booked to determine whether TUI have been a tad 'naughty'.

They have known for quite a while of the disruption and there should have been an earlier warning, especially for later bookings. Very early bookings, you may forgive them, but they should inform customers at the earliest possibility.

As above, some have managed a hotel change to the Pez Espada (also Medplaya).

Maybe check out late deals if you can cancel as the Las Arena can be had for under £300 p/p half-board. Obviously many other options and destinations.

Good luck and a shame as the Riviera is a great hotel.

HI, yes I agree! NOT good on Tui’s part! The £200 upgrade is for the ‘beach front’ larger balcony rooms .... this would not be ideal either... as demolition work is due to start on the villa nearer to them! Last 2 reviewers of the Riviera have both given 5 stars....even one on the ‘sunny’ side that couldn’t use their balcony..... We’ve never had a prob with asking for a certain room there..... but can appreciate now Riviera fairly doing allocation on arrival due to the demolition work and also work on its outside pool. Think considering a swap is the best advice if you intend using the balcony..... and yes it is a shame as the Riviera is a fab hotel..... Good luck!

Bear in mind both Riviera and the Villasol are/were Medplaya hotels (wholly owned by TUI) and Villasol was sold by them knowing it was to be demolished and rebuilt (as advertised on Benalmadena Palace group facebook pages last summer) they should have made people aware who have been booking since last summer.

Anyone changing to the Pez Espada won't be disappointed unless Tui don't book you into an equivalent room .

On a much lighter note.... the ‘hotel’ Villasol is coming up as #1 best value hotel - out of 45....... albeit for the weeks we are coming in September.... on TA hotels.... hmmm
