adults only trip-- things to do away from PF

I need some advice. We were planning an anniversary trip for us in June for our 16th wedding anniversary. Originally, we were going to Virginia, staying near Luray to tour Luray Caverns and a couple of the other big caves in the area. But, since I won that contest with Hidden Springs, we are thinking of changing our plans and coming to PF instead. But we come to the area so often, we wanted some things to do that aren't the same old thing every time we come. (That was our whole reason for deciding on Virginia-- something new for a change.)

Can anyone give me some ideas of things to do?

A couple of summers ago, every day we were in PF we would go to a different place every day. One day we went to Grandfather Mountain. Another we went to Chimney Rock. (Now that was awesome!!)

I should also add....I suggested a day trip to Biltmore Estate. My husband says NO WAY is paying to go look at somebody else's house.

Not to derail your trip in any way; BUT...since you said ANNIVERSARY...let me show you something. I have stayed at this Bed & Breakfast 3 times and loved every time. Twice with my sister, her husband, and my husband...in the presidental two-story condos...and once with my best friend for a girl's overnighter. It's great! You would not believe. COMPLETE with full breakfast, dessert at night, AFTER an HOUR LONG SUNSET PONTOON BOAT RIDE ON THE LAKE. Cut and paste the link to my slideshow....if you want more pictures...like of the condos, I have those, too....or if you want prices, website...let me know. I'm a local restaurant manager, resident who loves to "get away" in my own home town. Figure that! Anyway...at the very least...ENJOY the show....the second link is to my review...it looks like mine is on page 5, 1st one...but other reviews are great as well...check it out after you watch the slideshow.

I've lived here about 18 years and never been to Biltmore. It's nearing $100 per person now...and, I'm a photographer and they DON'T ALLOW CAMERAS. I would be MISERABLE...like having my hands tied behind my back! Asheville North Carolina is a quick getaway that we sometimes use....you'd have to research it to see if it's got anything you'd want to do. Also, Daindridge is a short trip...historic little town with a few cute restaurants...an antique shop...just "kick-around" worthy....no "ooooo, ahhhh". If we really want "out"....we go to Charlotte, NC....a few hours away for the more cosmopolitian "lively" atmosphere. Please do let me know what you decide. As an avid traveler, I love to help people when I can to make a trip better.

If we come to the PF area, we would be staying at Hidden Springs Resort. (i won a contest they had, so we were thinking of using our free stay for our anniversary trip.) But since we come so often, I would like to keep PF as our "home base" and travel to different area for little day trips. We loved Chimney Rock, NC. Do you know of any really cool places like that within a couple hours drive from PF?

Thanks!

We have been several times either for our anniversary or Valentine's. I can tell you it is fun to just get away 'adult's only" We drove over to Cherokee and visited the casino one day. My DH had more fun than I and we came out with more than we went in with. We try to do something we wouldn't with the kids too. We also had dinner at the Peddler (not somewhere we would take them either). It was fun just doing what we wanted and not worry about when we were going to the go-cart track :) This year we are going to Nashville.

Tell your husband if he avoids Biltmore, he's denying himself a very interesting and entertaining tour. I've been several times with my wife and I've loved every trip.

As mentioned above, cameras can't be used inside, but I have lots of SUPER outside pictures of Biltmore.

Tickets are $59 each, but if you buy them at least 7 days in advance, they are only $49.

We went last year at Father's Day. my ticket was free, and the kids were free. We only had to pay for my wife and mom. Not too bad!
