Traveling to Lampeter in the winter time

How difficult are is travel in late December in this area of Wales? Especially travelling by motorcoach? Are the roads usually snow covered and treacherous?

Does the University of Wales close down between Christmas and New Years and if so when do they usually re-open?

They are not normally snow covered and treacherous - though that doesn't mean they can't be.

As for closed - yup they do as a look at the website shows - they'll be closed between the 16th December & 9th January

A simple guide to British meteorology:

Britain is always subject to two conflicting weather systems: warm and wet, coming from the southwest (America), and cold and dryer coming from the northeast (Russia). Applies to many areas of life, not just weather.

Usually, in SW Britain (like south Wales), the American system prevails: they get damp, but amazingly mild winters. Though north of Calgary, South Wales winters are a lot warmer than, for example, those in Washington, DC. "Treacherous" winters usually mean rain almost as often as they get in LA.

One year in every - I don't know: 10, 20? - the Russian system prevails, and for a week or two - more often in Jan/Feb than in Dec - South Wales weather is on a par with Northern Virginia. Driving is safe, because as it's so rare we panic, and don't drive. No-one would dream of taking a bus out. Your biggest risk, that one year in however many, is being stuck in, say, London because buses to Lampeter aren't running

The weather is okay for driving nearly all the time in the winter, if there is snow,it is usually gone in a day or so and dont cause too much disruption.

Roads will be fine and the UNi normally reopens around the 4th of Jan. But it never closes completely at xmas, as some students stay on over xmas. Although all the facilities will close for the close down period, xmas day, booking day and new years day.

I work there
