oceanview or waterfront

If you're going to go to Charleston one time, would you recommend the Courtyard Charleston Waterfront or oceanview....such as the tides of folly beach, the Seaside Inn, or the Isle of the Palms....or something else?

I would spend the time at Folly, but then it is where I live. I would consider splitting up the time, so you get different experiences at Folly. PM me, and I will give you my thoughts.

If I were to visit here only one time, I'd spend a little extra and get a hotel in the Historic District.

I agree w/Shankle, if you are in Charleston for the first time, for a short time, I'd go for a place in the HD, save the beach for an entirely different visit. If you want to see the beach, take a day trip to IOP or Folly.

Is the Courtyward Waterfront close to the historical district?

The Marriott Courtyard is fairly close to the Historic District, but not really safe walking due to fast moving and heavy traffic. Here are some additional water front/water view options (other than the beach):

Historic District with water views:

Harbourview Inn: www.harbourviewcharleston.com/…

Zero Water Street B&B: http://www.zerowaterstreet.com

Historic District, very near the water/harbor are:

21 East Battery B&B: http://www.21eastbattery.com

Two Meeting Street Inn: http://www.twomeetingstreet.com

In Mt. Pleasant, water views (15 minute drive to Historic District)

Shem Creek Inn: http://www.shemcreekinn.com

*Charleston Harbor Resort: http://charlestonharborreso-px.trvlclick.com

*You can take the Water Taxi http://www.charlestonwatertaxi.com from CHR across the harbor to the Historic District

I second Harbourview Inn. It's a great hotel. Good luck.
