which travel guide company do you recommend?

My boyfriend and I want to take a day trip to see the Windsor castle, Bath, and Stonehedge. We are staying near kings cross in central london. Which travel company is the best? We will be going 12/21 so we are looking for a travel company that leaves super early from london.

Trying to visit Windsor, Bath and Stonehenge in one day will mean a great deal of time spent on a coach and very little time sightseeing. 21 December is the shortest day of the year with sunset at about 1550 and twilight in place by 1530.

Evan Evans, Golden Tours and others may offer this tour with the offerings of a muchness. If you have sufficient time to make a half day trip to Windsor on a different day then do so, and visit Bath and Stonehenge on another day.

If you had to visit one of the three, which would it be? There are frequent trains from Paddington to and from Windsor and Bath and trains from Waterloo to Salisbury for Stonehenge; if it's to be one then you can sort out transport easily on your own without using a tour company.

Unless you want to be at Stonehenge for sunrise then 21 December is a really bad day to visit! It may be that the routine tours might not run as it is an “open access” day with 000s expected for sunrise around 8am. To get from London for that time will need either a tour (as public transport does not run that early) (and if a tour runs it will be around a 5am or earlier start) or you should self drive but parking will be an issue.

You need to be organised and determined to be there for sunrise; it is likely to be packed (as well as arriving in the dark with the possibility of horrible weather). If it’s sunrise you want can let us know as that almost certainly means special tours rather than the routine ones.

There are companies that will run specifically for the winter solstice. Irritates me slightly as they talk about the price including admission to Stonehenge, when in fact it's free to attend the solstice celebrations. But you do get to walk within the stone circle itself in an intimate affair with a mere 3000 other people.

I wouldn't do Windsor, Bath and Stonehenge in the summer when there are longer opening hours, so certainly don't recommend it during winter months.

Having said all this, it looks like it might be being held on 22nd December this year, so do check. In which case 21st will be an ordinary day.
