Travel distance from Pittsburgh to Harrisburg

How is the drive from Pittsburgh to Harrisburg and how long does it take? I've been told you drive through the mountains and the highway lanes narrow? We may be making the drive in January so will weather be a factor? Thanks!

You can go straight on the PA Turnpike. There are tunnels through the mountains in western PA, but you don't have to worry about unsafe roads. It takes about 4 hours.

Just to add to the above reply;

The turnpike is probably hillier and curvier then I-80 as it was built mostly in the 40's and 50's but is not unsafe. It does go above 2000 feet around Somerset; so there is a possiblity of snow and ice in that area while It is raining elsewhere.

Just check road and weather conditions online at paturnpike. And if you have an iPhone there's an app for the turnpike too
