Best way of getting to Alton Towers from Ireland??

Can anyone help me with this?

Im thinking of taking a long weekend with my family over to Alton Towers this summer. We live in Limerick in south-west Ireland and our preference to get there would be ferry.

Does anyone know which harbour would be best to go from in Ireland and to in the UK?And would we have much of a drive from the harbour in UK to Alton Towers then?

Thanks!

Limerick to Dublin. Irish Ferries from there to Holyhead then about a 150 mile, 3 hour drive to Alton Towers. Most of that on A roads.

You can use any trip planner such as Viamichelin or theaa.com or even google maps to see the route.

From Limerick it looks like an 8 hour drive.

Alternatively, save yourself a couple of days of travel and fly from Shannon to Birmingham, Manchester (both Aer Lingus) or Liverpool (Ryanair) and hire a car there

Fly Ryanair to Birmingham? Also you could see if there are flights to Manchester or East midlands (sometimes called Nottingham).

The A roads are OK from North Wales into the Midlands; Alton Towers is actually in the middle of nowhere and so hard to reach by public transprort or expensive via cab so having your own wheels from Ireland may be the best option.

Depends also when you arrive. If you are on a weekend or friday with a lot of tourist traffic then it could be a bit of a slog.

The other alternative would be on the english side. Get a train from Holyhead and go via Stoke or Manchester to Uttoxeter which is still about 20 mins away. And too many trains in the uK involve connections. One missed connection and you are kaput.

Ride everything!!!!!
