Hi, I've booked this cottage for a week in late August for a family of 4. Has anyone stayed here before? Any reviews, tips on what to do if rains etc etc?
Just stayed there It is gorgeous-has everything you need and very helpful farmer-not intrusive but there if you need him.Milk from the farm and eggs-wonderful.Lots of things to do on the Island.Get the guide when you go on ferry.Have a grat time.
Just come back from a week at this cottage (sept 2012). Nigel the farmer is a 'lovely bloke', the cottage is comfortable and very well insulated, it has storage heaters but we didn't need them. A couple of recommendations..take a can of fly spray we got invaded most days, only to be expected on a working farm, with good waether. Don't use the post code to get there it will take you to the caravan site just up the road, use the directions Nigel will e mail you. The pictures of the cottage on web sites do not do it justice, its not that pretty from the outside but in a fab setting and is well layed out and has all you need, with the exception of a shower, we used a pan in the bath to create our own shower. There is a washer and functional line.
Its well equipped for the less able but don't let it put you off if your more active. Not only is the cottage well placed near the sea, its on the coastal foot path, the round the island cycle route, there are plenty footpaths locally and within walking distance of Parkhust woods. The bus stop is 5 mins walk up the drive. Been central on the north end of the island you are never far from anywhere and have a couple of big supermarkets in Newport ony 5 miles away. We were able to fly the kite in the field out back (keep to the right the farm horses may get a little spooked if it goes near them), swim with the dogs in the sea, run a nice 5 mile route along local farm tracks and stop at teh cottage for coffee on the round the isalnd cycle route.
We had a great week and would recommend this cottage to anyone.
Stayed in the cottage in August 2013, very pleased that we chose to go there. The cottage is pleasantly situated on a quiet farm, with the Solent about 200 yards away across a field. The accommodation was very comfortable and well equipped. The farmer is exceptionally friendly and welcoming to his customers. We would happily return, the cottage guest book is full of complimentary comments going back over several years.
