Hi - The Tripadvisor Forum People are the BEST! I always get such ideas from all of you! Here is my question: Is the Columbus Zoo good in winter? We will be there a little after Dec. 26th and would like to know if it will be too cold to enjoy most of the attractions. Thanks!!!

Yes, the zoo will still be lots of fun around that time. The annual Wildlights event runs though Jan 2nd. They decorate the entire zoo with thousands of lights and have all kinds of holiday displays and shows. There won't be many animals in the outside areas, but all of the indoor viewing areas will be open.

Here's some information:

we just went to the light at the zoo this year for the first time. Really enjoyed it. Cold? yep! :) Some of the buildings are open (Asia, elephant building, aquarium, reptile house) No animals outside really. Lights are cool tho. Great to walk amongst them. Head to the food court for a good place to sit and get warmed up. Also cheaper coffee, hot cocoa and warm cookies in the food court :)

Just don't think in terms of it as a zoo trip. Not many animals to see in the winter.

Remember, this is a nighttime event, so plan accordingly...

Well, as stated, there are quite a few animals that you probably won't get to see in the outside areas, so I don't know how "good" the zoo will be.

Many of the animals have indoor viewing areas. The apes/orangutangs, the elephants, etc. The aqaurium is wonderful. There's a large snake house. I like it a lot in winter - fewer people, very quiet.

We enjoy the zoo in the winter, it is a different experience. There are still several indoor exhibits you can do. Wildlights goes on through Jan 2nd and on the 26th there is a musically light show, but I have not heard the times yet.
