Transfer from Sun Peaks to Whistler in January

We are a group of 6 adults who will be travelling around BC next Dec/Jan. We are looking at a week or so in Banff, followed by Sun Peaks then Whistler. We're having trouble finding the best way to transfer between Sun Peaks and Whistler. Our planned transfer day to Whistler doesn't line up with the direct coach. We've looked at flights and the train to Vancouver then a transfer to Whistler, but thought a private transfer might be a more cost-effective and direct option. However we can't find any shuttle companies mentioned on TripAdvisor forums. Any suggestions?

Are they going to drive up from Vancouver to Sun Peaks, then drive you to Whistler? That is quite something. 4.5 hours to Sun Peaks, 5 hours to Whistler, then the driver deadheading 2 hours back to Vancouver. In the winter. Well done.

One of the others in our group organised it so not clear on all the detail but I think they're coming up the day before.

Update on my original query:

For Winter 2017/18 Sun Peaks had updated its website with a number of transfer options. We went with TasteFull Excursions. Had a very experienced driver. The trip via Route 99 was fantastic. Took about 4 1/2 hours in mixed of clear weather and snow.

Do NOT take the train. I like the train, I ride that train (Via's Canadian) at least once a year, but the timekeeping is terrible and it is routinely at least 10 hours and more (44 hours late not too long ago) into Vancouver recently,. This is due to the host railroad, CN, not Via itself, but it doesn't matter, late is late. It will wreck your plans and frustrate you. Don't do it.

Hi Michael

Just wondering if you would recommend Sun Peaks? Was it worth the transport hassles?

We really enjoyed Sun Peaks. A good variety of terrain - mostly intermediate - should satisfy everyone. Our accommodation for 3 couples was a 3-bedroom condo on the hill above the village. Only a 6-7 minute walk (the shuttle service didn't get close enough to make I a worthwhile option). A nice mix of cafes and restaurants. Only 1 small grocery store and liquor store so you're there for any length of time you'd want to do most of your shopping in Kamloops before heading in to Sun Peaks. An unexpected treat as an evening trip in to Kamloops organised by Central Reservations to watch the Blazers in a WHL game. For a group who'd never seen a live ice hocky game it was a fantastic experience. All in all I'd give it 8/10.
