Transfer from Sun Peaks to Whistler in January

We are a group of 6 adults who will be travelling around BC next Dec/Jan. We are looking at a week or so in Banff, followed by Sun Peaks then Whistler. We're having trouble finding the best way to transfer between Sun Peaks and Whistler. Our planned transfer day to Whistler doesn't line up with the direct coach. We've looked at flights and the train to Vancouver then a transfer to Whistler, but thought a private transfer might be a more cost-effective and direct option. However we can't find any shuttle companies mentioned on TripAdvisor forums. Any suggestions?

Is this the service you say doesn't match your schedule? https:/…inter-resort-shuttles

I think that might be the only service. You will notice the above link says that if they have fewer than 4 passengers signed up 7 days in advance, they won't run. Otherwise you will need to get down to Vancouver (Greyhound or VIA Rail - the train only twice a week in winter) to Pacific Central Station and connect with another Greyhound to Whistler.

Maybe someone knows something else but the demand for that service is already bare bones.

That's what we were looking at - it only operates on a Sunday and Tuesday. We have the numbers so if there's no other (direct) option we might need to consider adjusting our schedule.

Yep there is not a lot of demand for Sun Peaks to Whistler so if you can't make the shuttle work for you your only option is to get to Kamloops via the Sun Peaks shuttle and hop a bus to Vancouver then another shuttle bus to Whistler. You can also try and work in the train, but that won't provide much in the way of convenience compared to the direct shuttle. There would be very limited flights from Kamloops to Vancouver... Kelowna would provide a more populated and useful airport, but that's another hour or two beyond Kamloops and creates another logistics issue.

Have you considered doing another mountain in the Rockies instead of Sun Peaks?? Thinking of Fernie..you would transfer back to Calgary then down to Fernie..then back to Calgary..fly to Vancouver and shuttle to Whistler. With 6 people you might be able to get a direct shuttle from Banff/Lake Louise to Fernie.

Another option is fly Calgary to Kelowna and shuttle to either Big White or Silver Star..both have excellent skiing and good on mountain facilities..then fly Kelowna to Vancouver and carry on to Whistler

Fernie may work better than Sun Peaks even though Fernie is literally the middle of nowhere you can shuttle direct from the Calgary Airport though it takes upwards of 4 hours each way. Then you can easily fly to Vancouver and shuttle up to Whistler like most everyone else without a vehicle does.

Big White is also known for epic powder and is just 45 minutes from Kelowna which would be an easy flight from both Calgary or Vancouver... though the costs would be more than bus considering there are 6 of you.

I guess the real question right now is why Sun Peaks? There are other more convenient and better resorts... though it is more budget friendly than most.

May as well toss Revelstoke into the mix as well. The benefit there is it's right on the TransCanada Highway.

Thanks for your suggestions. We might well want to look at other mountains like Big White & Silver Star to make the transfer a little more straightforward.

How many days would you have to shorten or lengthen your time at SP? The shuttle to Whistler takes 5.5 hours, minimum and would cost about $1100 + taxes for the 6 of you. Compare that with the costs and travel/transfer time of the other mountain options.

I too was curious about Sun Peaks..possibly because it seems to get lots of advertising in Australia?

Red Mountain, Revelstoke, Panorama, KickingHorse all offer excellent skiing.

Sun Peaks ranks high for beginner and intermediate slopes.

Silver Star, Big White, Sun Peaks are family oriented but I know that the back side of Silver Star has some good black diamond runs ( so DD tells me lol)
