fishing in KDH

My husband wants to know more about fishing in KDH. The information below is helpful, but I need to know if a license is required? Which is the best place to fish? Where is the closest tackle shop? I have never been to the OB before and am trying to plan out the vacation, so we have a better idea of what we are doing. Please advise.

Thank you

Couple links attached below to help you out. Depending on time of year, wind direction, water temp, etc conditions may vary. I stayed in KDH last July and had a ton of fun surf fishing catching small spot and croaker with my son. You do need a license to surf fish. KDH is also close to Avon fishing pier which is also fun fishing, no license needed as the pier takes care of that. You can do head boat fishing (with lots of other folks on board) for inshore or sound fishing. Mostly small pan fish but fun for the average joe. Finally there are charter that can vary in price and options. Both boat options do not require a license.

Whatever your pleasure, enjoy your time int the OBX. It's a wonderful place. You will be back :-)

By the way. Say hello to everyone in Pottstown for me. Moved from there 8 years ago. Small world.

For a full day offshore adventure, go to Oregon Inlet Fishing Center, you will catch fish, Those guys are serious, but a good time is always had. To fish the surf, a 10 day license is only 10 bucks. You can also do an inshore 1/2 day trip from Oregon Inlet. Check their website. Have fun.

I have to think they meant to say AVALON Pier not AVON which is not at all close and is about 1.5 hrs south.

Surf fishing in KDH area requires a rod and reel capable of throwing a 1 oz lead weight out 20-40 yards into the surf. Long rods are best and if hubby has a lot of fresh water equipment he may not want to bring much of it. You can rent equipment here to use at tackle stores or on the piers. They can also sell you what you need to catch whatever is biting that day.
