Children and safari

Hi there we are looking at a holiday in Kenya next year and looking at a Tsavo safari. Are children allowed to go on safari as I have been told that our daughter needs to be 12 years old :-( she will be 9 next year. Can somebody please shed some light on this for us please. Many thanks in advance xxx

Yes you are allowed to go with your kid on safari. We went with our kids age 7 & 11years respectively and they still remember every part of it including the name of our guide. Let them go have fun and all the best.

Only a few upscale camps don't allow children below a certain age, normally 7 years.

Who has told you this? If it's a package tour company with groups then perhaps they don't allow children so they don't impose on others sharing. Some unfenced camps also might not allow children for safety reasons.

There are some camps that even show rates for those as young as 2yrs, (often free) but for the young ones some camps don't permit them on game drives unless the family has exclusive use of the vehicle. And if the real young ones can't go out, there are always nannies to watch over them for a small fee. But yours is older and there shouldn't be any issue and most of the higher-end camps actually do allow young ones. In fact the best age for a child to have their first safari is from age 7 and up. So as stokeygirl mentions - you're good to go with yours.

The age 12 is often the youngest age for a hot-air balloon.

So maybe you need change agency.

Sure, kids are allowed on safari.

In fact, kids pay less.

Pull up link below on Satao Camp

Satao is a very good Lodge in Tsavo.

Note: Read the fine print on rates for kids btwn 2-12

Joanne, which camps/lodges have you been quoted for?

Remember that while you think your little ones are angels, most adults do not want to share vehicles with them. Each camp is different so no same answer for all of them.
