Family things to see..

I have got our hotels and airline tickets booked....now I am trying to write down our activities.... The first and the last night (two nights) we will be in Las Vegas.... We have two boys (6 and 9).... We don't stay out too late and we don't gamble... but we would like to look at all of the lights, etc... What are some good things that we should see in those two nights....(also, we live in South Florida, so we are always swimming...so we aren't looking to swim)...Thank you for your help!! PS- We are going in August... what is a good thing to see on our drive from Las Vegas to Zion? Thank you for your help!

If your kids like roller coasters go to the ones at New York-New York and Stratosphere.

If they like spectacles take them to see the Bellagio Fountains and Fremont Street Experience. And the Hoover Dam which needs to be seen to be believed.

If they like animals take them to see the lions at MGM Grand (are they still there?), the white tigers at Mirage (are they still there?), the Flamingo Wildlife Habitat, the Mandalay Bay Shark Reef and mostly the Mirage Secret Garden.

I have compiled a list of family activities for those who take their kids to Las Vegas. I am not making any judgments about which ages each of these activities is appropriate for, nor am I making any judgments about how good or bad anything on the list is. I just put it together from a lot of TA Forum posts about families in Las Vegas over a few months of time. I hope you find it useful:

Excalibur: Large arcade

Luxor: unique architecture

NY NY: unique architecture, display on sidewalk at front of casino

Bellagio: Lobby, conservatory, and fountain shows

MGM Grand (near it): M & M’s World

MGM Grand (near it): Coke Store

Paris: Eiffel Tower (go to the top)

Bellagio: Fountain Shows, Conservatory, Chihuly art glass

Circus Circus: Adventuredome (games at are cheaper than at Excalibur; free circus acts)

Venetian: Grand Canal Shops, St. Mark’s Square, Madam Toussad’s Wax Museum

Caesar’s Palace: Forum Shops (animated statues, aquarium, sky dome ceiling)

Mandalay Bay: Shark Reef

Mirage: rain forest at entrance, fish tank behind check-in desk, Sigfried & Roy's Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat, volcano

Palazzo: lobby and shops

Wynn: atrium

Flamingo: Wildlife Habitat (birds, fish, flamingos, etc., in a park-like atmosphere)

Houdini Magic Shop (Caesars Palace Forum Shops, Venetian Canal Shops, NYNY)

Coney Island Emporium (NY NY)

Stratosphere Observation Tower: watch the crazy & brave people dangle over the edge

Family-Friendly Shows:

David Copperfield

Blue Man Group (Rio)

Terry Fator (Mirage)

Love (Mirage)

O (Bellagio)

Mystere (TI)

Jabbawockees (Monte Carlo)

Nathan Burton (Flamingo)

Mike Hammer (downtown at Four Queens)

Mac King (Harrah’s)

Steve Wyrick (off strip at LV Hilton)

Dirk Arthur (O’Sheas)

Popovich Pet Theater (Planet Hollywood)

Tournament of Kings Dinner Theater (Excalibur)

Downtown or near downtown:

Freemont Street: Light/music shows, free live music on various stages, zip line (60 lb. minimum)

Neon Boneyard tours

Lied Children’s Museum

Mormon fort

Cashman Field

Off strip destinations:

Maverick Helicopter Tours (15 minute trip over the strip at night)

Pinball Hall of Fame (250 pinball machines; http://www.pinballmuseum.org/games.php)

King Putt (indoor golf)

Red Rock Canyon: The drive through the canyon is nice, and there are family-friendly trails. Bonnie Springs and Spring Mountain Ranch are on the same loop. Red Rock Canyon Ranch has horseback riding and a petting zoo.

Valley of Fire …vegaskids.info/Valley-of-Fire-Tour/

Hoover Dam

Mt. Charleston

Sam’s Town laser light show

Indoor Sky Diving (minimum weight is 40 lbs.; www.vegasindoorskydiving.com/weight.php)

Valley of Fire is on your route from Las Vegas to Zion.

Take a circuitous route and you could take in the Hoover Dam, Lake Mead, Lake Las Vegas and Valley of Fire all on the way to Zion.

Now I am LMAO, LDN :-) I really did just compile into one answer the suggestions given by numerous posters. I can't take credit for the list...only the post.

Your kids will have a blast just wandering the strip with you (you will have some, uh, teachable moments at times, tho). Nighttime, with all the lights, will really thrill them--especially the Bellagio fountains and the Mirage Volcano.

Pat's list is really great! I'm in my 40s and I want to do half the stuff on it!

Pat, you may want to add springs preserve to the list. I did do a second glance and that's all I could really see missing. There are other real local places but you pretty much covered all the touristy places.

My daughter (11) just loves walking up and down the strip. She likes the vibe and the lights she also likes to take in shows and shop. She actually chose Vegas for spring break over other destinations. I was happy to agree as its so inexpensive. We leave next week.
