I will offer up a quickie TR on my quickie weekend with my wife. Per my other TR's, I like the paragraph style that addresses specific topics so people can skim right to the stuff they are interested in....not what I had for breakfast :)
Why the hate for City Centre? I went to Vdara because I wanted something nice and new for our 20th anniversary...Vdara delivered! This is a fantastic suite hotel that we loved. Pictures and vids of the rooms are all over the place, but they don't do the place justice. I did the old "$20 Trick" and asked for something special. The suite check-in girl told me she had just the suite and suggested that instead of as high a floor as possible, which she was ready to give me, that I try one in the middle. She was right, the view we had was directly to the Bellagio fountains and the panoramic suite windows (with power shades that give a stunning view) gave us a 180 degree view of not only the fountains, but over to the Rio and the mountains in the background.
Something that nobody ever mentions about the Vdara is how imediate you can get to your suite. Since there is no casino or large restaurants, you can be to your suite within 5 minutes of handing your car to the Valet. This was very nice at the end of the evening...Greeted at the door, pushed the button on the elevator, in the room in about 3 minutes. Try that at the Bellagio or the Venetian.
This is the first show that we have ever seen in Vegas and we were not dissapointed. We even thought the $16.50 drinks (Large fruity rum or vodka drinks with colorful names) were great.
Not sure why Aria gets the hate either. We went to pick up our tickets for Love and played in the casino for awhile and took a quick tour. It's a beautiful property and I thought the much maligned casio was terriffic! Why do people knock this place? It was not too dark and had alot of energy. We did not get a chance to stay in a room or eat here however...would book a trip there in a heartbeat.
Quick walk over the bridge from Vdara. One thing that is starting to get annoying about the Bellagio....Lookie-Loos. This was Saturday night, but we could barely move do to the T-Shirt and Flip-Flop crowd who were there to feel like big shots....of course, they were not staying there, eating there, or gambling there....just taking up space. Hey, I'm not trying to suggest people don't have the right to be there, they are not breaking any laws, but why are they there?
I will tell you this much however, something I NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD SEE AT THE BELLAGIO....A $5 blackjack table!!!! I'm not kidding! There was only one, but it was there! Could it be some of these places are starting to figure it out?
Great as ever, we ate at the one on Sahara, not the tourist packed one on Tropicana. Joy, pure JOY!
CAR RENTAL SELL OUT:
Been coming to Vegas for 24 years now, at least once a year, some years as many as 4 trips. I probably have 35 trips under my belt with almost all of them with a car rental. This is the first time I have ever been to a car rental company and they did not have even ONE car to rent...OF ANY KIND. I have National's "Executive" membership, and they were cool, but had no cars! I waited with some other customers and finally a Chevy Tahoe came up the ramp and I agreed to take it. They were very apolagetic and gave me 30% off my total bill...but the truth is they just got slammed! Even my business trips to COMDEX back during the technology boom never saw a used car sell-out!
This goes with the post above. I was very suprised how busy it was. I know it was the last weekend of the summer, and a 3-day one at that, but it was crazy packed on Saturday night. What recession?
PREMIUM OUTLETS NORTH:
Since this trip was with the wife, we decided to hit the Premium Outlets North for the first time. I got a question...what BRAIN SURGEON designed a premium outlet in THE MIDDLE OF THE DESSERT to be an outdoor mall? Holy $H!7...it was 106 degrees and relentless sun on Sunday. The mall was packed and we were miserable. Too make matters worse, we did not find one thing worth buying. Total waste of premium gambling time!
Since was with the wife, we played the machines. It was funny, I would pick a machine for her, she would sit down and double her money. I would sit down next to her and lose mine. Together we came out about $100 in the positive for the trip with about $1500 going through the machines. I call that a win!
Kids don't belong in Vegas...PERIOD
OK....that's a quickie and it's time to get to bed.
