My Topsy Turvy,Wacky,Wonderful, Etc WTH TR ~ May 11th ~ 15th

I'm still not out of the "zone".... you all know that place..... when you get back from Vegas, late late at night, or very early in the morning.... In this case, over 2 hours later than I should have gotten home, due to a bad accident (roll over) on the highway that would have delivered me to my highway headed east in less than 10 minutes..... Now, I had to go... North??? then South, on a west bearing road, and wound up in Kansas... near leavenworth, before I "found" Highway 70, my Interstate home, but I was still Two hours away at that point! So, I just pointed the "nose" of my vehicle in the right direction, and... settled in for the rest of the ride. I checked in here when I got home, pm'ed Marge with an update, posted a post on the Champagne Mega thread, and... laid my head down on my pillow, and snuggled into my warm fuzzy blankets. That was the last I remembered till 9 am this morning.

So.... anyway... back to the "zone". I know I'm still "there" because I went to my great nephews graduation "after party", and... everyone was asking me about Las Vegas, yada yada.... and I'm feeling VERY light headed.... but, excited and mellow, and..exhausted. ALL these various emotions, feelings, states.... and I realize that I am not "normal" but... there's no way for me to get there except to "sleep it off". LOLOL

But... I promised a TR beginning report,so... here it comes. Then ... I will sleep the sleep of the damned for very many hours before I get up tomorrow.... so, my trip report follows, as replies. To those of you who know me, I am given to great detail, and this will come in segments. For those who don't like to read "those kind of TR's"... I'm sorry, but... we all have our own way about things, and mine is to make sure that I give you as many details as possible, so you get to see my trip from "the inside out"....

Here goes....

Oh yeah, and for those who have been asking "how I did at Bingo".... see kgouins post where she refers to me as "her lucky charm". That is a BIG hint. LOL

DAY ONE .... May 11th

I awoke... so to speak... at 5 am. didn't sleep that much Monday night... per usual. I didn't even finish packing Monday night. Got some late ebay orders in, so I was up late getting those done. One of my "International orders" had to wait till I got back, because I couldn't FIND the lace she had purchased. Sometimes they hide from me. Anyway... I bounce up, get my quick bath, and get dressed, quickly finish packing...I'm only taking a carry on, and I go to get my teeth and put my makeup on. Well.... neither got done. Since getting my teeth was the first in line... and since I NEVER FOUND THEM... that one thing made the second thing ... well, basically ... unnecessary??

I looked, first... just... checking here, there, etc. I hadn't worn them for a couple days since they'd been bothering me some,but... I had my "places" where I keep my teeth. I was just sure I'd left them in one place, but repeated checks proved... they were NOT there. An hour into the search... I started bawling. Who wants to go on vacation without their TEETH! Ok... its just a 4 tooth bridge, but since they are in front, feeling "naked" is a pretty good analogy for "not having my teeth in place". So I'm bawling. And panicking. Then, I'm thinking... HOW can I go out in public without my TEETH! I actually have done this a couple times here locally, but since I wear a neck scarf all winter and spring, its pretty easy to "hide the fact". For the next hour... I search, cry,and ... think about being in Vegas without teeth. Bottom line? Outside of Kelly, and her mom and aunt, who else would it matter to? So... I decide to continue on my way. I grab my carry on and my purse... and head for the car. I am halfway to the airport, when I realize, i've left my cane in my van.

So.... Problem #2. First time without my cane in Vegas.

I hurry, and soon I am in the airport complex, and I head for the Economy Parking Lot North of the Airport, park, and catch my bus into Southwests Terminal B.... A wheelchair is waiting.. I did not take time to eat anything, so... I go to the Wolfgang Puck station and choose a Chicken with Pesto on Whole Wheat Ciabatta bread. I have water with me. This costs me $7.89, $8.63 with tax (I think) Eating 1/2 this sandwich in my wheelchair, while waiting for the plane, without my teeth, and with Ciabatta Bread, was quite a thing. I ate the second half in flight. The flight was full. They even asked for 1 standdown, for which they would pay $200 and the replacement value of the ticket. They would get you on the next available flight. Someone must have cooperated... as we all got on our way shortly.

I met a wonderful girl on my flight to las Vegas... Bobbie. She had never been to Las Vegas in her life, and knew nothing at all about Las Vegas, but was soooo excited about this two day trip. Arriving Tuesday, around 1 pm in Vegas, and she was leaving mid afternoon Thursday. Bobbie and her friend were the last two people seated on the flight, and they almost didn't make it. For some reason, Bobbie had looked at the arrival time in Las Vegas, and thought this was her departure time (12:55 pm) Actually, departure time was 10 50 am. So... they were walking in the airport, when they saw the departure time displayed on a monitor, and commenced running through the airport. Bobbies mother works for Southwest Airlines, so... she was totally mortified! But they did make it. Barely.

She tells me about the Southwest Party that they are having in Vegas (on Wednesday) Downtown... in front of the Golden Nugget. Then we start talking about Vegas. She is staying at the Golden Nugget, but knows nothing at all of what to see and do in Vegas. So... on a napkin, I draw her a "map" of Downtown Vegas... each casino, and highlights of things, like the 1,000,000 in Binions to get your photo taken with. And I told her about the Gold Nuggets in the Golden nugget. And about Firefly and the tapas plates. AND about 777 Brew Pub. And about the filet and lobster at California's Pasta Pirate. I gave her a "crash course" on Downtown, and then... I told her about the light shows, because she had never heard of them. Then I told her some highlights she shouldn't miss on the trip. By the time we were done, she had every square inch of that napkin with notes on it. Every single inch. LOL I told her about TA, and that she could find me here. She wrote the address down. I hope she finds me... as we really became very good friends on that flight!

When we arrived in Vegas? For the first time ever, there were NO WHEELCHAIRS waiting! Three of us needed wheelchairs, and it took 20 minutes for them to get them to us! So we all just sat inside the plane, until they told us the wheelchairs had arrived. Another "lost" item on this trip so far!!! What the heck???

Shuttle Service (Bell) has eight (8) stops total, and I am drop #7. It takes about an hour to get me to Fitzgeralds. I arrive, and as quickly as I can, I make my way into the backside of Fitzgeralds. That is not very fast.... my hurry mode would be a slow walk for most. LOL And THERE... right inside the door about 20 feet, is my RED SCOOTER! I see the Bell Captain and ask him if thats my scooter. He asks my name, and then said, Yep, thats yours. He brings the key to me, and I don't even stop at registration! I have 15 minutes to make it to the Plaza, and to meet up with Kgouin and family! Whew! I zip right down to the Bingo Hall at the Plaza, 3rd floor, and as soon as I enter the room, I hear my name called! Yes, its Kelly! She, of course, sees my red scooter and gold hat. I spot her, wave, and get in the short line to get my bingo package. I rush over and park my scooter nearby, and seat myself next to Kelly! Second Whew!

I explain about my "missing teeth" pretty quickly... and she tells me not to worry, it isn't noticeable at all. I put everything INTO the electronic machine this time on my bingo package, as I had no time to do my Bonanza cards etc. My buy in? $27. I win nothing, BUT Kelly wins 1 pot on a blue card ($60) but has to split with another winner... $30. At least this pays for her bingo package. Her aunt, who plays only a paper pack, no machine, wins on a green card... ($180) but has to split, so she gets $90. Kelly has brought me a gift package! Awwww... isn't that nice! A new dobber from Foxwoods in Connecticut's Bingo, and a little jug of maple syrup made in her home town. Another Awwww! How sweet is that??? Thanks again Kelly.... what a wonderful, sweet idea!

Her mom and her aunt leave after the first session, but Kelly stays and plays another session with me. Then they are all heading out to see Jersey Boys. I leave quickly before the session ... down to the Fitz to get myself registered. My bag has remained on the scooter this whole time. I ask for and receive a room close to the elevator. Let me mention at this point, that never, in all my years of going to Las Vegas, have I ever complained about a room. I have never asked to be moved. Well, as soon as I enter this room, I have a problem. The room is clean, it is cooled nicely, and at first glance everything appears ok. But I am almost knocked flat by the odor of the room. It smells intensely of Body Odor. I am really not liking this at all.

I head back for the 5 PM Bingo session.... $27 buy in, again.... my large rainbow package, and 3 Bonanza cards, out. No wins at this session, for me OR for Kelly. We chat for a bvit, and then she has to leave.to meet up with her mom and aunt. We agree that she will leave me a message on my cell phone.... Wednesday, or Thursday... whenever she is ready to meet up again, and with a window for me, so that I will have time to check my messages.

Now, its time for DuPars for me, as I have now grown quite hungry.... the Wolfgang Puck sandwich has long ago left me. But as I'm traveling down Fremont Street, I am sure hoping that I will be able to do something about that room, when I get back from the 9 pm (last) bingo session of the day.

I look the menu over, and at first glance, it really does look sort of expensive. They have some little specials on there. I note that

they have a Breakfast Special (Blue Plate Special) from 6 Am to 11 am. Short Stack and Bacon or Sausage, $6.75. OR Pancaake sandwich.. with 1 egg, and bacon or sausage, for the same amount. OR French Toast, with bacon or sausage, 6.75.

On the way in, I have seen the BIG SIGN outside that says.... "Best Pancakes in America, According to Escquire Magazine." I decide I'll be back to try these.... but for now... I have found something on the menu that suits me. One last option on the Blue Plate Special menu is a Bowl of Steel Cut Brulee Oatmeal. The girl explains to me, this oatmeal is "creme bruleed", with sugar melted with a torch on top, and then topped with fresh seasonal berries for $5.75. That sounds really good to me, but in December, maybe.

One half sandwich, a bowl of soup for $8.95. Its a little cool on Tuesday night, so this sounds good. Another thing that sounds good, is that for an additional $1.00, ($9.95) you can have a piece of DuPars World Famous Pie. You get your choice of their homemade bread on your sandwich too... Sourdough, Whole Wheat, Rye, and... you also get to choose french fries, cole slaw, or potato salad with your sandwich.. I chose a tri-tip sandwich (something not found anywhere around where I am) on Rye, potato salad, with a bowl of Cream of Potato Soup. Just water to drink. My soup is delivered immediately, and I can see leaves and pieces of green spices floating in my soup. It is sooooo yummy! Just delicious. Just like my mother used to make. The tri-tip sandwich arrives, and this one half sandwich, if "squared out" would be as big as most "whole" sandwiches. The tri-tip (beef) is tender, delicious and stacked high, with a delicious garlic Kosher dill alongside. The potato salad, is a nice sized serving, ALSO home made. Du Pars is onto something here! Near as I can tell, they make their own bread and rolls (its called DuPars Restaurant and Bakery) and breakfast Danishes, donuts, and the like, homemade soups, and sides... I'll probably be trying their fresh made pastries one day. But for now, i ask my waitress about the "Early Bird Special" that they have at the California DuPars Menu... This is where... a special is offered at the price of the time it is, as in 4:40 PM when you order? Thats the price of your meal . She tells me there is something in the works right now about this.... Coming Soon. She also tells me they are working on a Graveyard Special Menu... so, state tuned for this as well. I think they are going to really make us happy when all is said and done. I SAVED one very good point till last. DuPars is a 24/7 restaurant! So... we do have a late night option on that end of town besides Market Street Cafe.

I decided to order the $1.00 extra pie, IF I can take it with me. She assures me that this is fine, they will box it up for me. I have spotted a mile high pie of Lemon Meringue flavor, and I have to have a piece of this. It suited me to eat this pie at about 1 am, and it was a very large size piece of pie and it was, as everything else, just delicious~! My total bill, including tax, was $10.76. And, I was also told they have hired back all of the Bay City Diner employees. Something about that just spoke to me of Family Owned Restaurants. I would have to give the place a High B+ Rating. I still want to see those other special menus, but am very happy with what I've tried so far.

Back to the Fitz after DuPars, and to the desk. I explain to the person there that... in all my years of coming to Las Vegas, I have never asked to change rooms. But that was about to change I tell her about the odor problem, and its not a "faint odor"... the place reeks! She asks if I want housekeeping, or do I want another room. I tell her, " I don't know if housekeeping can help that room or not... but for me, I need a different room. This creates no problem.... I am given a new key, and room 2030, which is also close to the elevator. I am ecstatic. I am up and change out the rooms quickly... and the room is fine.

Back for the 9 PM session of Bingo. $27 buy in, and f i n a l l y a win! Blue Card, $60, but a win! For the day, my buy in total is $81, and I've won $60, so I'm down $21 from $3-10 pm, not including food, tips etc.

After I head over to the Golden Gate for some slot play. As I hit the street and am about to enter the casino when "The Tribute to Queen" starts. I have to watch! I am in Vegas.... yes, I have missing teeth, and no cane, but... QUEEN is playing! All is right in my world. I am just Happy as can be... When its over, there is this grizzled gray black security guard standing by the door watching the crowd, and the show, I'm sure. As I wheel by him, I point upward, and say.. Thats the BEST ONE! And I smile, without my teeth. He smiles right back, and says, "I agree...."

First, I put $20 into a Double Money on a 25c end cap machine, played it a bit, and hit double bar, with 2 Double Money symbols, their wild card... Cashed out $39. Went to play the Mystic Fortune 1c with a 30c Super Bonus Jackpot feature. Played for awhile. Hit on one small bonus, but... when it was down to $35, I cashed out and went to a Vibrant 7's machine. Playing 35c here, and I hit a Free Spin Bonus (3 scattered Free Spins) and when its done playing out, I am sitting on $49.20. I cash out, and head back to the Fitz.

In my room I watch the news, wash my face, and put on my jammies. I count out my money, and finally remember to put some in the safe. With all told, tips at the airport, food, etc... I'm down about $37 for the day total. Not bad at all, all things considered.

I have plugged in my scooter for charging, and I finally eat that piece of pie. Uh Huh! yep. Perfect end to the day. I sleep very well.....

To be continued.....

I'm tired. This is all I can do for today... but I will post more, after I get done with my ebay lace orders and whatever else comes my way tomorrow. :-) I'm still "in that zone"..... Two times, for quite a little time spell, I fell asleep while typing this. And I slept soundly. LOL Would wake up and continue typing. Now, I need some full time rest.

Thanks Sheila. That Dupar's tip was enough to hold me as we are staying at the Nugget our last night there. Great TR so far. I'm anxious to catch the rest when I return. In the meantime, get some sleep - sounds like you really need it after only reading about day 1...

I dated a guy in high school who had all his front teeth missing (thanks to a hockey puck). The night I met him (with his piece in) he insisted on telling (and showing me) so if it mattered to me I could leave right then. We dated for over a year, lol.

Anyway, to go without teeth and without a cane had to be nerve-wracking, but it sounds like it turned out ok. Can't wait to hear about the Bingo wins.
