Best breakfast and dinner (Where do the locals go?)

Our family of four adults is making a trip to LV next spring, starting to investigate places to eat. Looking for a casual, "diners, drive ins and dives" type place to eat breakfast and dinner, maybe off the beaten path, must be clean but not too picky about menu, we all love pretty much everything. Love to go to places that local residents frequent, have found you can get the best meals there! Any suggestions?

We made a trip up to Hash House a Go Go last week, it was worth the trip but be forwarned that the portions are ridiculous! We split 2 platters and 2 sides for 4 people and it was plenty! Can't really say it us a "locals" place though.

My Las Vegas friends go to the Black Bear Diner on W Tropicana a lot-great for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

I also love Hash House a Go Go and agree that the portions are enormous-better to order fewer things and share.

I also recommend Nora's om Flamingo and Pasta Mia on Flamingo for Italian food.

And of course, there's also Inn n Out Burger if you don't have those where you are from-not fine dining but fun.

Try any of the Village Pubs. They are owned by the same man who owns Ellis Island and the food is similar and a good price. Also any of the PT's Pubs and Big Dogs.

I like Maple Tree, The Egg and I or Egg Works (same owner) for breakfast. Hash House A Go Go and Orginal Pancake House are popular too but not your diners, drive ins and dives criteria.

Try Chinatown for some good food that won't break the bank and there are many small Mexican restaurants scattered about. If you are interested just ask and you will get many responses based on the type of food you are looking for.

Hash House A Go Go is a locals' place, as well as for visitors, because it's been on the food channel. BIG portions. Funky Menu. http://www.hashhouseagogo.com/

For Breakfast, we like the Cracked Egg. Also large portions, and every omelette also comes with a piece of coffee cake, DELISH, that is a meal in itself.

Lunch-we like mexican food, our favorite fast food is Zabas Mexican Grill

or a chain restaurant called Macayos

You guys are all terrific! It's so nice to get such timely responses, even though our trip is a ways away, I can't wait to try out these places. I've checked out the websites and have them bookmarked, my only regret is that I have to wait now until spring! Thanks!

These are some of my favorite off strip restaurants:

Any restaurant in Chinatown Plaza (or surrounding area):

Joyful House-not far from Chinatown Plaza( 4601 Spring Mountain Rd) has great authentic Chinese food. They also have a great hot pot from about 10PM until 3AM.

Opa:

Lotus of Siam:

Someone mentioned Pasta Mia (W Flamingo). In the same strip mall-a few door down- is Thai Spice which also has very nice Thai food:

No list would be incomplete without mentioning Ellis Island that has a very good steak meal ($6.99- off menu). Others have praised the other items on a menu -including breakfast:

My very favorite off strip restaurant is Rosemary's. If you look at the promos you will see some great values-but it is good without the promos.

I second Blueberry Hill and The Egg and I. Also, went to Omelet House on W. Charleston which was great too.
