The Mall of America is in eastern Bloomington and very close to the MSP airport.

Bloomington is closest, then probably Mendota Heights (just over 494/river), then probably Eagan and Richfield.

If I'm reading your question right, most hotels don't require a deposit on your credit card to hold a reservation, only to secure it. The only exception is usually if something BIG is going on that weekend in the area and rooms become scarce. If I'm totally off-base, please restate your question, thanks.

creason (and original poster): I travel quite a bit, and yes - some hotels will place a hold of some amount of funds on a credit or debit card. The might show up as "pending charges" and can be up to one night's charges. This happens after you check-in, but before you checkout and clear the account. The pending fund hold usually disappears in 1-3 days. This also happens at gas stations, with debit cards, too.

The Mall of America is in Bloomington. Edina is about a 20-25 minute ride, depending on time of day and traffic. Their roads can be very backed up at times.

If you are looking for close proximity to the MOA, you'll want a hotel in Bloomington. The Bloomington MOA/Airport locations will offer the most choices in hotel accomodations. Most of the Edina hotels are located on the border of Bloomington/Edina. This is about a 10 -15 minute drive with limited traffic. We tend to stay more frequently in the Bloomington/Edina area only because those hotels tend to offer better deals. We have gotten great rates at the Sheraton, Sofitel, Country Inn and Suites and Stay Bridge. There is also a newer Westin in Edina.

Only 20-25 minutes in rush hour, otherwise 10-15 minutes. Edina does have better restaurants.

There are 2 excellent restaurants in the Mall of America. Napa Valley Grill and Crave. Both are outstanding!
