June 2017

I am arriving from Florida for 2 nights (Fri-Sunday) in the area for a cousin's wedding.

Reading that there is little or nothing to do in Rockport/Gloucester after 6 pm or so.... and few restaurants open for dining.

Is this true ?? Would I be better off staying in/near Boston and just drive up on Saturday for the wedding ??

Lots of restaurants in those towns, and Gloucester has a great theater scene

You were reading a review from someone who stayed a weekend in November. That's a very different experience than during the summer, which is their "season".

You can also check the schedule for Shalin Liu in Rockport, though it may not be complete for June yet.

Regardless of the validity of what you read about Rockport and Gloucester, yes, anyone looking 'things to do' would be better off staying in Boston.

Thanks for the responses. I grew up near Boston, went to Boston University and thought that a weekend on the water would be nicer than in the city. Just wanted to be sure that would be restaurants open in the evenings and perhaps some place to get a drink and listen to music on Friday and Saturday nights.

You might want to peruse this website regarding alcohol in Rockport:

Most Cape Ann restaurants will be open on June weekends.

While Rockport requires that some food be ordered along with alcohol, Gloucester has plenty of places to just get a drink.

Not one to consume more than a single glass of wine with any meal or appetizer. More interested in whether or not restaurants will be open. I seem to have given the impression that I was more interested in alcohol than anything else. Definitely not the case. Purely coincidental that my profile picture was taken in Belgium where one must sample the Trappist Belgian beer...
