Chesapeake Bay, MD - things to do/places to stay??

We are traveling with 2 teenage girls and thought it would be fun to drive from NJ to Chesapeake Bay area in MD. We love the water and would like to rent a boat, and might l like to rent bikes. Looking for other fun things to do (paddle boating? other ideas?). We are not sit on the beach people. Interested in seeing chincoteague island, maybe a sunset sail around the area. Also looking for a cool Inn, B&B, cottage, rental or similar, preferably near the water or in area where we can walk to do things. Will spend about a week in the area, end of july or 1st week of august. Would appreciate any recommendations for fun, accomodations or food. thank you!

That time of year is the annual pony swim and roundup at Chincoteague. I've never been to it. It may be too late to get a place to stay at this point

Lots of people come to the St. Michaels area. Tilghman Island Marina rents boats, jet skis, there is a bike rental, paddle board, kayak rental place in St. Michaels as well as Easton Cycle and Sport that has rentals. There are some tour boats and a skipjack that do trips on the river or Bay. There are a lot of waterfront house rentals in this area that provide kayaks and SUP for the renters. If you wanted to be able to walk to restaurants and shops you would pretty much need to be in St. Michaels or Easton.

Are you planning to be primarily on Atlantic Ocean side or Eastern Shore of Chesapeake Bay? I can help with insight on eastern shore and will second the 👍🏼 on St. Michaels.

Cambridge is also a good central "base" for the area. The Hyatt has kayaks, boats, SUPs etc and you can easily do day trips to the bean in one direction and St Michaels in the other.

Your message was in the Rock Hall Forum. Is this a place you are interested in visiting?

If so, Rock Hall is a small beach, harbor and other shoreline areas where you can rent SUPs etc. We've stayed at Osprey Point, which has a pool and kayaks etc. The town, like all the eastern shore, is quite bike-friendly. Several stores and restaurants, not too touristy. The harbor--which still has some working waterman-- frequently has events such as Pirates and Wenches weekend (second weekend In July). There is a former drugstore that sells ice cream--it's one of our go-to spots with the kids.

Chestertown is not far and is another great town to visit.

No, I was having trouble finding the area we are interested in on the forum. Ideally, want to be in an areas where there are things to do. St Michael's and Easton were recommended. We are looking for a house to rent on or near the water that is close to an area where we can walk to restaurants (perhaps) or at least a short drive. Open to other areas. At some point we want to go to Chicoteague island to see the horses. We also want to rent a boat and maybe see some other areas. Open to any and all suggestions. Girls are 15 and 18.

Thank you so much for any info!

This is the main business for renting homes in the St. Michaels area. There are a couple of their rentals near me. I have lived near St. Michaels my whole life, so ask away . Delaware State Fair is coming up and close by to this part of Maryland if the kids are interested in the Midway-rides, games and farm animals and they also have nightly well known entertainment.

Honestly, I'm not sure what people do when visiting St. Michaels. There are lots of small shops and restaurants. If you want to bike, kayak, boat, crab, fish all of those things you could certainly do.It's about an hour and 45 minutes to the Atlantic beaches if you wanted to make a day trip there.
