Aaaarrrgghhh!! Pirates and Wenches Weekend Report

Spent the weekend at Rock hall for their 2nd annual Pirates and Wenches Fantasy weekend. With one exception, the entire weekend was a massive success!!

Kudos to such a little town planning, organizing, and pulling off such an undertaking!! We went last year for the day, and seeing the fun that it was, immediately planned for returning for the entire weekend this year. You didn't disappoint, and the entire town put in a huge amount of effort for this year, and it looks like they invited many thousand friends!

Made it into town around 3:30 or so on Friday the 7th, and was surprised to find there was no traffic. Most of the activities were planned for Sat and Sun, so it had a more "regular" feel to the town. We checked into Tallulah's and spent a few minutes talking with Barry and Jim the owners. What an absolutely fantastic little place, and our hosts couldn't have been more gracious. We'll do a review, but we will stay here from now on whenever we're down! Sorry - we're already booked for next year!!

Met our friends at Harbor Shack. This place was our base of operations for the entire weekend. There were many, many events in town with something for all ages, and we enjoyed many of them in costume from a picnic table overlooking the Harbor. We ate dinner on Friday and Saturday, and lunch on Sunday at the Shack, and while slightly pricy, the food was very good in size as well as flavor. The crab dip in the bread bowl topped with cheese is always a treat, while the prime rib was excellent. Wings are hot and huge!! The Cream of Crab didn't smell fishy at all, but tasted awesome, likely due to the big chunks of crab inside! From the reenactments breaking out all over the place (how cool was it when during your lunch, pirates begin running through the restaurant firing muskets at invaders coming in by pirate ship?)

We made it over to Watermans for the Pirate Ball, and couldn't have been more disappointed with them. We have eaten there a few times before (if you didn't know, this is a really little town and your dining options are limited), but the food was nondescript and the service was absolutely abysmal. We, along with 18 of our boating friends will NEVER spend another dime there due to the way we were treated, and we will pass along our stay away recommendation to others as well. Believe me, we are very low maintenance, but our treatment was inexcusable.

Anyway, despite Watermans, by all accounts the weekend was a huge success. We're looking forward to next year, and based on the huge growth from last year, the 3rd annual should be awesome!

Sounds like an excellent weekend. I'm thinking of planning a weekend at either Rock Hall or Chestertown. I've only been to Rock Hall once and it was during a bike ride. Any suggestions? Which one? Thinking maybe in October. Would that be a good time? Might be a girls getaway weekend. Would either place be good for that?

We spent a little time in Chestertown, and we enjoyed it, but we were looking for a quaint little, quiet time on the water and away. I'd hit Rock Hall. We've stayed at the Old Gratitude House a few times in the Tropical Room (think that's the name) and would it very nice and relaxing. Big private deck on the top of the house which we took advantage of. Breakfast was pretty decent as far as B&Bs go.

We thoroughly enjoyed Tallulah's on Main. Fun place with only 5 rooms, but the owners Barry and Jim are great people and the place was a great place to stay. There are some nice places to eat in Rock Hall, depending on what you're in the mood for. Why not try the Harbor Shack on Friday for food and fun, and then dress up a little and head to a nicer more formal place Sat night? There are a few in RH (I think we went to Osprey Point and had a very nice dinner. You could also do some sightseeing in RH and then drive out to Chestertown and walk around and have a nice dinner on Saturday. We had a great anniversary dinner at the Blue Heron, (sorry can't definately remember the name, but the food and service was great!) in Chestertown.
