The Rangeley Lakes Chamber of Commerce web site is probably a good place for you to start. http://www.rangeleymaine.com/ There is an events calendar and directories for shopping, dining, museums, outdoor activities, etc.
One thing you must do is hike Bald Mtn. - from Oquossoc Village it is just east on Route 4 and offers spectacular views of Rangeley, Mooselook and a couple other lakes from the top where there is a 30 foot tower you can go up as well. It's a fairly easy hike, definitely family friendly.
You are probably too early for blueberries but keep your eyes open for raspberries and blackberries.
We go up there at least a couple times a year, just got back from a week at Mooselook actually. We are generally more adventurous but this year didn't leave our camp much at all. It was incredibly hot and humid so we just did a lot of reading, relaxing, swimming and kayaking.
I'd ask locally - general store, local restaurants, etc - about the blueberries.... there was an article in a couple of mid-Maine newspapers this morning about the blueberry season being a couple of weeks ahead of its usual schedule this year.... In fact, one of the u-picks just outside Augusta was quoted as saying they had a big turnout last week and expect their berries to be gone in another week or so. I realize that the growing conditions around Rangeley will be different (rainfall, elevation, etc), but if they're ahead of schedule there as well, you may find some.....
I think you will either find blueberries or will find that they are winding down. We were in Eustis the July 9 weekend, and they were just shy of ripe then.
Back home now. Arrived in Rangeley week of 7/24 and blueberries plentiful. 5 of us picked for about 1 hour. Had enough for 2 batches of blueberry pancakes and a complete blueberry pie! Remember -- the wild ones are the little itty bitty berries! Yummmm...
We just returned from Eustis and also found good blueberry picking. We were hoping to get in one more picking, but those darned overnight thunderstorms left everything too wet...
