Worth to stay in south portland to save $$

Hi, the wife and I will be in portland for 3 nights in late october. Hotel rates are about $275/n in downtown maine, while around the airport, its about $120. How much of a PITA is it to drive into downtown and look for parking.

There's plenty of parking as long as there's not a "special event" happening. Or you could Uber back and forth for 10 bucks a ride. Comfort Inn between the airport and the mall is usually a good bargain if you don't mind basic rooms, or the Best Western.

It's easy to drive into Portland and in late October you won't have as much traffic. We were there last year during the last week of October and stayed at the Homewood Suites in Scarborough. It was reasonably priced, new, included breakfast and a really short drive to both Portland and the shore out on Cape Elizabeth.

I agree with the other posters. Late October is not bad at all for parking in Portland. You'll be fine anywhere in SoPo. The airport is close to the Maine Mall area, so compare hotel rates-------there is virtually no difference in driving time into Portland.

Note: Parking rates in Portland garages vary wildly. Use BestParking.com to find the cheaper ones. (There is on-street metered parking, but it's limited to 2 hours).

We have stayed at some Marriott properties outside downtown; Fairfield, and Sable Oaks Marriott near the mall, and a Residents Inn in Scarborough, all easy rides to downtown...and we also liked the Residents inn on commercial St downtown.
