Georgetown or Boothbay Harbor?

We will be traveling from Bar Harbor to Ogunquit and would like to take a side trip to either Boothbay Harbor or Georgetown Island for lunch. I realize this takes us off the beaten path so I'd like to know which road trip is more scenic. Also considering the lobster Dock in Boothbay or Five Island Lobster for lunch. Any input would be much appreciated!

Boothbay Harbor has a nice downtown area with lots of shops and restaurants, and also a lot more people than Five Islands. If you want "scenic Maine", go to Five Islands for lobster lunch. You can spend hours on their deck just watching the water, soaking up the sun and smelling the sea breeze.. And, the lobster ain't too bad either!!!

Similar to the question posted above, we will be traveling this July from Bar Harbor/Acadia back towards Kennebunkport and it was suggested we stay 1 night in Mid-Coast Maine. Suggested were Camden, Boothbay Harbor, Rockland and Rockport. Anyone have a strong preference for one of these towns?

SummerTraveler, you might want to start a new thread with your question so that it get's seen by more people.

Camden, Rockport and Rockland are all pretty close together, so you can still visit the other two towns while staying in one. They are all right on Route 1 so you will likely be passing through them anyway on your trip from Bar Harbor (although through-travelers will often skip Rockland/Thomaston by taking Route 90 between Rockport and Warren).

Boothbay Harbor is out at the end of a peninsula, a bit off the "beaten path" of Route 1, and IMHO certainly worth a visit.

I'd head to Boothbay... Only about 15 miles off Rt 1... Stay at http://www.greenleafinn.com ... Green Leaf Inn and Admiral's Qtrs are joint property now. Jeff and crew are excellent hosts....we'll be there early July too....One of our fave destinations and Inn. Sits right downtown overlooking the bay... Walk out the door and up street to all quaint shops, puffin/whale watch cruises... Walk across pedestrian bridge to Lobster Dock... Don't try the Bobby Flay throw down champ they did with crab cakes (wait for a MD trip) .. They won the throw down.... But you need to try lobster every which way while in Maine...go for their lobster and fried artichokes too. If get chance take sunset cruise on Schooner Eastwind...http://www.schoonereastwind.com ...nice! And on way in/out Boothbay stop off at Edgecomb Potters...great just to browse... Great pieces and Jewelry and more... Love their whale tail coffee cups.. And last, swing by Red's Eats ... Big red shed... Blink and you'll miss it...on south end of bridge in Wiscasset only few miles headed back south. Stand in line for serious lobster or clam rolls... Serious foodie splurge...long lines at most times but its summer and Reds... Doesn't disappoint. ... Look it up on Trip Advisor. Etc.

Inajohn: if you're just stopping for lunch, make it Five Islands. the lobster company there just made Yankee Magazines list of the dozen best in all of New England.

Boothbay is a lot like Bar Harbor, very touristy, lots to do. If you're there in July or August you'll go crazy just finding a place to park! With Five Islands it's a scenic drive, the lobster pound and five gorgeous islands to gaze out at. Pretty spectacular.

Here is the article from Yankee Magazine. yankeemagazine.com/article/features/best-lob… As you can see from the picture, Five Islands is the real thing. When you turn the corner and see it you'll feel like you've been let in on a wonderful secret. With the Lobster Dock you've got a huge restaurant that can serve hundreds, tho it probably won't be choked with customers like it is in July and August.
