Birding in Sarasota/Englewood Area in Febuary

Hello! My name is Rin Pell, and I'm a biology student from Georgia who is currently studying Ornithology. My lab group and I will be visiting February 10th through the 12th in search of some new species that we can identify. There will be 3-4 of us visiting, and we were thinking of touring Celery Fields and Stump Pass to search. Is there any long-time birders who would like to come with us, or anyone who has further recommendations for new birders?

Thanks a bunch!

Rin Pell

Well I am not a bird person, but I have seen a Bald eagle in my neighborhood lol.

The one place I saw the most birds, was Myakka River State park. I saw a bald eagle, some ospreys, a roseate spoonbill, 3 different herons. There were more, but I didnt know the names.

In addition to celery fields, take a kayak out and paddle around the intercoastal.

Sounds like a good idea! Do you know what part of the park you were at?

At Myakka:

There is a "birdwalk" (boardwalk with lake views) off the north park road. We also saw many birds by parking near the restaurant and walking west along the lake to where the river/creek flows into the lake.

You should contact the Sarasota Audubon Society..You might even get some members to accompany you.

The boat trip at Myakka is the Gator Gal....very

popular for wildlife. The Celery Fields are a good pick, too...there is an Audubon pavillion there.
