Hi there Charlie,
Don't know about the webcam. Maybe its busted?
Do know that lots of folks swim in the LBTS ocean, don't know why you can't see any.... Lots of folks also stroll, exercise, lollygag, and in general RELAX.
I found a website for Ft. Lauderdale (which is 1+ miles up the road) and they give weather, wind, water temp, etc. which ought to be the same in LBTS.. Name of the website is: http://ci.ftlaud.fl.us/oceanrescue/index.asp
Also gives times of high and low tides and sea pests, if any (like jellyfish!)
Every time I am in LBTS I am in the water, and this is all times of the year. Maybe there was a Portugese Man O War alert or something. THAT would keep me out of the water!
I just found out about water shoes. You wear them in and out of the ocean and I love mine. Protects your little toesies....
Hi Amiga,
That's great - really helpful. Will check the site.
Can't wait to travel to the US again.
Brill thanks.
Just there last week The beaches were nice for swimming and walking, and both that we visited had showers to rinse off the sand. Parking was a challenge near Anglins Pier, but we were able to finally find a spot later in the afternoon. Lots of shopping and restaurants there, so bring plenty of quarters for the meter.
We had read there was snorkeling at a 3 tier reef off the beaches in LBTS, but were unable to locate them. Anglins Pier doesn't allow snorkeling within
300' of the pier. I swam out slightly past the buoys on both the beaches we visitied and saw a total of one fish and no reef. Would be helpful if a map of the snorkeing area was posted. I've read one should display a dive flag for
snorkeling, so I assume this means it must take place in the boat traffic area.
Guess I should have stopped at the tourist info place on the way through.
We were in LBTS last June. We did get in the water, but it was very rough surf for some reason. We kept getting knocked down by waves, so we would just swim in the hotel pool (which was right on the beach). Some days were worse than others for the waves.
We did see people snorkeling in the pier area, although I am sure it was the required distance out. We would see their little flags in the water almost every day, and saw them coming in and out. I am sure if you asked at the pier they could tell you the snorkeling areas
I was there early april and the weather certainly seems to effect currents. I got quite scared one day and yep, knocked over several times too but it was around the time when later in the day we had a very heavy downpoor. Later the same day was brilliant in the ocean. I saw snorkelers several times but guessed they were maybe with the snorkel outing place the next street over from El Mar drive.
I've heard the only shark attacks around here have been close to that pier because Sharks are used to eating discarded fish from the fisherman.
