Never even been to Florida! Wondering what part of key west is the best? If it has different beaches, what beach is the prettiest? Thank you
My favorite is ft Zachary Taylor, views and scenery. You will need water shoes at this beach.
Fort Zach and Higg's Beach.
Higg's Beach has Salute right there on the beach, it's one of my fave restaraunts.
The Keys are not known for their beaches. Our offshore reef and very shallow nearshore waters prevent the forming of natural beaches. There are a few here, but they are not the long, soft, sandy beaches you find elsewhere in Florida or the Caribbean. You say you’ve never been to Florida, so if great beaches are a priority, you might want to look at other areas like the West Coast barrier islands. Places like Anna Maria Island, Sanibel, Siesta Key and Marco Island all have miles of beautiful white sand beaches.
Which area of Key West is “the best” depends on your preferences. Old Town is the couple square miles of Key West that has our historic district and most of the attractions for visitors. It also has dozens of bars and restaurants all in a compact, walkable area. This is the area most visitors prefer as you don’t need a car to get around. Everything is very walkable or a short bike ride away.
Key West has a few public beaches. Fort Zachary is probably the prettiest, but the beach is very rocky. Bring water shoes to walk the beach and get in the water.
Ft. Zach is one of the prettiest beaches there is. Right up there with some of the coves in Laguna Beach, the points in Malibu, or the long white stretches of sand you will see in many other areas of Florida, or the whole Gulf Coast.
Just don't expect it to be something it isn't.
And don't expect to be able to walk in bare feet from the water to the showers and back. Watershoes are a must!
