2 days with kids!

Spending 2 nights in a condo on the beach in mid may with our 2 daughters, 3 and 6 after a Disney trip. They have never seen the ocean (Kansas girls) so looking to maximize our time on the coast. Any suggestions on some must do fun activities? Or kid friendly fun restaurants on the beach? Not really interested in Kennedy space center after wallet-draining Disney.

Not a far drive from Cocoa Beach is Brevard Zoo. Fun easy day. Here is the link: https://brevardzoo.org/ They are located near Viera which has some upscale and regular shopping and many dining options are near there. What time of year will you be visiting? Winter months you can sometimes see manatee at the locks by the port. Most of the restaurants are not geared towards kids but are family friendly. Lori Wilson park is popular with playground and beach access.

There used to be a Dinosaur store in CB, not sure if its still there. You might also look for dolphin watch tours on the river, google them in Merritt Island too. There is also a mini golf in either CB or Port Canaveral.

I'd suggest a trip to the Cocoa Beach Pier. Grab an ice cream and enjoy a walk out on the pier. Or a trip to Jetty Pier Park to have a picnic and watch the cruise ships come and go.

Stop at Ron Jon Surf Shop (buy some of the iconic tee-shirts for the kids) and the Dinosaur Store (it is still open, and features a small play area, a selection of dino-themed toys, as well as serious fossils valued up to $20,000, so be cautious). There are several shell shops, and over in Cocoa Village there is a toy store and a magic shop.

Eat at Pelican's at the pier; get a window table to overlook the surfers. Many of the restaurants at Port Canaveral have good outdoor deck views of the huge cruise ships sailing out, typically between 4-5 p.m. (Rusty's has the best deck). The Shark Pit Grill in the Cocoa Beach Surf Company complex has some tables next to a large fish tank with sharks and other varieties.

The Fat Donkey Ice Cream shop downtown has refreshing treats. There are several other ice cream shops along A1A, including the new Twistee Treat in the cone-shaped building. Buy a key lime pie to take back to the condo at the Florida Key Lime Pie Company, on Dixie Lane just north of Ron Jons.

There are three miniature golf courses along highway A1A -- Gator Golf at 6100 north has a display of small alligators. For larger gators, Grasshopper and Twister airboats operate in the wetlands off highway 520 west of Cocoa (check on age requirements).

Besides your condo beach, you could visit Lori Wilson Park, which also has a nature trail, lifeguards, and good facilities. Jetty Park (fee applies) in Cape Canaveral is also nice (you can walk out on the jetty itself). Hunting for shells is best along the Cape Canaveral beaches at low tide in the morning. Manatees can often be found at Manatee Park at the west end of Central Avenue or at the shipping channel boat locks at the western end of the port.

Parker Brothers off Astronaut Blvd. does customized vehicles for TV and motion pictures. They have a display that includes a Batmobile and the Ghostbusters hearse, among others. There is a planetarium over in Cocoa.

Just let them play with the sand and the ocean water! It's free and they will have fun doing it for hours.

Take them to the Brevard Zoo and if your in the Cocoa Beach area go to the Dinosaur Store on 520. They have

an adventure zone and real alligators.

Have a great Disney cruise.
