Palisade--a Trip Advisor Top Ten Wine Destination!

I saw on the news this morning that Palisade was named to the 2012 Trip Advisor Top Ten U.S. wine destinations! Yay! But Trip Advisor has a bit of an error for trip planning, as they have a link under the listing for "Cheap flights to Vail." For anyone planning to visit Palisade, Grand Junction would be the most convenient (and usually cheapest) airport by far. There are flights from Denver, Dallas, Houston, Phoenix, Las Vegas and Los Angeles. Or Palisade is a bit over 4 hours from Denver and 5 from Salt Lake for those who'd like to drive.

Yes, it was quite delightful to see Palisade mentioned as a top destination but also quite surprising to note that Grand Junction was not mentioned as a nearby attraction. Instead they mentioned Aurora and Boulder (both near Denver) and never said anything about the Grand Mesa and the Colorado National Monument. I sent a message to TA to see if they could rectify some of their information. As a destination expert I'm always getting email requests from them for info on some places far, far from where I live so I don't think they really look at maps very often.

Congratulations! Every year I say we are going to Palisades and Fruita for wine and biking. Yet another year has passed and we've not gone. Sad. Hopefully this spring!

Hopefully too that people will come to the Forums to ask how to get there!!

This is our 4th trip back to Grand Junction and Palisade area. We have visited nearly all the wineries in the area at least twice now. All of them are worth a visit but we really enjoy the wines at Garfield Estates, Grand River, Plum Creek, Canyon Wind, Two RIvers, Hermosa, Mesa Park and Colterris. We need to come back in the summer to try first hand the peaches and cherries when they are fresh off the trees. Get over to Palisade for several days, take your time and enjoy wines from all the wineries. Grand Junction is also a favorite of ours as well and we enjoy the activities and food there as well.

Some other great day trips( in addition to Grand Mesa and Colorado National Monument) from Grand Junction/Palisade would be the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park and Gateway with its awesome Auto Museum and the Unaweep Tabeguache Scenic Byway. Even Moab and Arches National Park is doable as a day trip or overnight, along with several other destinations within a couple of hours' drive.
