Am I able to hire boat and do a canal cruise in or around Amiens?

The local waterway for Amiens is the Canal de la Somme https://www.french-waterways.com/waterways/north/somme/#fw-tab-content-0-0

I can not see that any of the major self-drive canal boat hire companies such as Le Boat, Locaboat or Nicols are active in the area.

All that appears to be on offer are cruises on hotel style barges.

You may be better off posting on the Amiens Forum. This is the forum for the town of Canals not for canal cruising by boat.

CANALS is a small village in deepest France as said. (The word in French, for the plural of canal, would be Canaux anyway.)

And I got zapped because? Was it a link to info on the Canal de la Somme near Amiens, mentioning the major self-drive hire boat companies or suggesting the exact same thing re Canals as post #2 and making the same point as post #3. Really??

is it possible to rent a self-drive barge for cruising on the Somme?

As a previous responder has said, none of the canal hire fleet operators have bases in the area, probably because the canals of northern France tend to be very much commercial waterways with little tourist attraction (or indeed facilities).

This forum is about a village called Canals, not boating. You should ask in the town or village forum relevant to the Somme or search 'boat hire Somme' which quickly brings up a company with three rental locations along the river perhaps not barges though.
