Canal Du Midi - Couple of Questions from First Timers

Hi There

Having done quite a bit of research (thank you TA!), we're firming up plans to hire a boat on the Canal Du Midi in mid-late June this year.

There are a couple of things I'm hoping you lovely experts might be able to help with:

1. We'd love to go from Beziers to Carcassonne but only have a week - is this doable (without getting up at 6am & motoring along for 14 hours a day)??

2. It seems that there are extra charges for mooring at a Marina - is this the only way we can get power (or a recharge to the power)?

3. Any feedback on French Travel (an Aussie company that offer self-drives boats)?

Any other advise / recommendations would be much appreciated - there's only the 2 of us (fit & healthy - late 40s) & we're interested in exploring castles & historic sites as well as relaxing with a glass of wine & some cheese, watching the world go by!

Thanks in advance...

I can't answer your questions as we are booked to be on the canal June 7 - 17...we may see you on the canal.

I missed this question in January but if it´s not too late:

1. Yes. I am aware of a base at Port Casafières but not at Béziers but the distance can easily be done in one week.

2. This depends upon from what company you rent. Leboat lets you use the electrical connections if you stop at any of their bases along your route. Otherwise, expect to pay a modest fee for electricity.

3. Never heard of this company. The largest operators in France are:

a. Leboat

b. Canalous

c. Locaboat

We are thinking of a self drive boat trip for one week from or to Carcassonne.

Any help from your trip would be very much appreciated.

There are a number of companies that have boats on the Midi, we were with Le Boat, but they do not have a base at Carcassonne. There is a canal boat company at Carcassonne, which would make the trip to/from easier, but taxis from most places on the Midi can access Carcassonne easily as it is in the middle.
