Keystone or Breckenridge

We are planning to fly from San Antonio to Denver and then spend two days skiing in February. We are skiers in our 50,s but I would like to know if someone has any recommendation on staying and skiing at Keystone or staying at Frisco and then drive to either Breckrnridge or Keystone?

Thanks

Plenty of places to stay in Keystone.

Also depends on when you are coming. If Presidents Day weekend, will be VERY busy.

At Keystone, I prefer River Run area for access to skiing combined with apres ski.

Keystone is more of a ski village vs Breck that is a ski town.

If you stay in Frisco, I would actually consider Copper Mountain unless your preference is Breck or Keystone.

Are you coming for more than 2 days? If only 2 days total in the mountains I'd go ahead and stay at Keystone the whole time. Lots of Lodging options. Condos, Hotels a cute B&B. What do you like?

Given that Keystone and Breckenridge are under the same ownership, you don't really have to choose between them. A ticket for one will be honored at the other and vice versa. I recommend that you pick the lodging you like best and realize that the max drive from any place of lodging to your preferred ski hill is going to be 35 minutes whether you stay at Keystone, Breckenridge or one of the other Summit County communities.

Alpine Slopes Lodge in fine but right on the highway. If you do stay there consider checking your skis rather than carrying them back and forth. It is a bit of a walk.

Just my .02 I don't care to ski out of River Run, too crowded and too loud for me. But I go for the skiing more than the other stuff.

Thanks Ali, I am going mostly for the skiing but also to eat good food after ski. Any recommendation for great restaurant in the area? I will have a rental car so I could drive to other places. Once again, thanks for your reply.

No need to drive anywhere. You can take the free busses to get just about anywhere you like. We had booked the restaurants on the mountain for Christmas but was cancelled due to weather. You could take a chance to book one of those with a backup in case you can't get up there. You can book any of them on opentable. You take the gondola up from river run and then the peak to peak gondola. Next time we are up there we plan to try again and hope the weather holds out. For casual dining we liked the 9280 tap house and the Kickapoo tavern. I have heard that the ski tip lodge is very very good.

I agree the Ski Tip for dinner. The Alpenglow Stube for lunch. I also like the Bighorn at the Keystone Lodge.

Kickapoo is good for casual but if you are willing to drive a very short ways the http://www.calapub.com/ or you can take with free Summit Stage. More of a locals place. I do not care for Zuma's at all. New Moon for a sandwich or quick breakfast. Pizza 101 for pick up or delivery. We usually pick it up they can take awhile to deliver. You are staying across from the Haywood good casual food. I don't care for the food at the Snake Saloon but some do. I do like the bar usually live music.

Have fun!

Alli, we r getting ready for this short ski trip to Keystone. We r intermediate-skiers. We r skiing this Friday and Saturday. Do you have any recommendations which slopes/mountains to ski on Day #1 and Day #2? The one that are less crowded? We want to take it easy on Day #1,

Thanks! Do you recommend A-Basin?

I find that it takes me a while to get to know a new mountain, so I'd ski at Keystone both days.

I think Friday will be less crowded than Saturday. I'd start as early as possible and take an early lunch so you're skiing and not eating at the peak of the restaurant crowds.

There are nice blue runs around the Montezuma chair; we always find the lines are longer on the right (as you face uphill) than on the left.

If a line is long at any chair, DH and I go in the singles line, which usually moves quite quickly.

Check the grooming report if moguls matter to you. Bighorn is blue, but it's a long bump run; Starfire and Diamondback are black, but almost always groomed.
