where to stay

We will be in Durango for 4 days in August with Grandparents and 2 kids. Any recommendations on places to stay that are nice, reasonably priced?

We always state at the Doubletree, not the most inexpensive place thought. There is a Residence Inn that looks nice too.

If you take the train to Silverton, I reccomend you plan on the return trip via bus!!

We enjoyed Mama's Boy Restaurant and Gazpachos as well as the dining at the Doubletree.

Have fun and ask more questions if you need to!

We stayed at Durango Mountain Resort (Purgatory) in a condo and it was perfect for our needs. The kitchen was stocked with a ton of cooking utensils/supplies. It is about a 20 minute drive to town - but a beautiful drive. It is halfway between Silverton and Durango. We enjoyed our stay there. There is horseback riding about 1/4 mile away and some "summer" stuff to do there at the resort. I found the condo we stayed at on VRBO.com. We drove up to Silverton and also did activities in Durango. We were there 5 days. I would stay there again, but if you'd rather be right in Durango you might want to look for something closer.

If you don't really care much for fancy the Ramada was quite nice for us. It was a reasonable price (about $65.55) & did offer a complimentary continental breakfast of cereal, fruit, muffins, toast, juice, etc. There isn't much parking & the highway noise was noticeable but there is a microwave & fridge in the rooms. Also, there is a sink in the bathroom & one just outside the bathroom on a long counter with alot of space underneath for storage. It isn't a resort but it was a nice place to sleep & shower. Have a great trip.

We just stayed in a really lovely aparthotel right off the main street called Nobody's Inn. The place was recently renovated and is beautifully decorated. There was four of us and we shared on of the one-bedroom apartments at the back of the building - the main bedroom has a beautiful queen size bed and the lounge has a very comfortable sofabed. The apartment was nice and quiet and worked out very well for us especially having a fully fitted (and very funky!) kitchen.
