Transportation to and from San Francisco and Sonoma

Let me apologize in advance for my numerous questions but I am a big planner and have never been to the Bay Area before.

Heading to a friend's wedding in late March in Sonoma. Will be spending Wednesday-Friday morning in San Francisco with a group of 5, before heading to Sonoma to rendez-vous with a larger group of friends. Unsure if we will need transportation once in Sonoma (maybe to and from the rehearsal dinner in Napa unless we take taxis) and potentially a few hours of sight seeing on Saturday before the wedding. A large group (12+) will be heading back to the SFO on Sunday morning for early afternoon flights.

What is the most efficient/cheapest way to get from SFO to San Francisco, to Sonoma on Friday, and then back to SFO on Sunday? We've discussed renting cars, hiring a limo/bus, etc. Would appreciate any advice the board may have. Thanks!

Take BART to SF when you get there. With 5 people a cab would be better and about the same price. With 7, book a shuttle like Lorie's or Supershuttle or others listed at flysfo.com

In SF use Public transport or cabs as needed

On Friday, rent a couple of cars or vans in the city to go to Sonoma and return them in the city upon return

Sunday -- Book a couple of private shuttles to take you back to the airport

Pure Luxury is a company that rents shuttles and buses, for wine tours or airport transportation, and does a great job.

The wedding is in Sonoma and the rehearsal dinner in Napa?

Yes you will need transportation, but taxis would be very expensive. Do you have your locations correct?

Thanks for the suggestions.

Yes, the locations are correct. The rehearsal dinner is on a train that boards in Napa.

Sounds like renting cars may be the best option if we aren't going to take extended wine tours.

This thread was started by ess928 to get information on his/her specific trip itinerary.

You will get better answers if you start your own thread and give information about where you want to go after you take a ferry to Vallejo, etc.

Did you ever decide on a hotel in Napa? You were looking at the "BW" back in August.

Let us know your plans but, yes, do start a new thread.
