Anyone know if the Escondido Falls is flowing water currently. Hoping to hike this weekend.
No water there now.
Waterfalls are a function of rain fall. We've not seen rain since the springtime.
Expect that fall to only be worth seeing for a week or two after a very good rainstorm (one storm at 1 inch won't matter).
And please don't expect a lot from that trail, it's a walk through a neighborhood on the road, then a trail without a lot of charm, to a wooded area and the falls. Upper falls can only be accessed by scrabbling up the dirt cliff, using roots, so it's not a very environmentally friendly thing to do (we don't ruin tree roots for fun).
Winter and spring for Santa Monica mountains hiking is the best. This time of year is the worst (fire danger. too).
Thank you for the information. Will hold off on this hike til later.
