Ski Clothes

Hi all, we are an Australian family of four travelling to California in Feb 2013. We are hoping to ski at the Big Bear resorts. Is there a rental option available for ski pants and jackets? We come from tropical north Queenland where we hardly have a Winter and have never skied before. Buying ski clothes for us would be a waste of money and bulky for luggage. I know we need googles but do we need specialised clothes? Feb 2012 we were at Yosemite in the snow with just jeans, thermals , lots of layers and warm coats (waterproof). Any information or advise would be appreciated.

Cheers

I presume previous post was removed due to advertising guidelines. Thanks for trying to help us but we are still interested in Big Bear area. I did some more research on previous forums and will probably stop at a Walmart enroute from LA to buy cheap ski clothes. We have suitable jackets, it was more the pants concerning me. to buy ski pants in Australia they are about $200 each and we will probably not use them every year.

Still interested in anymore advise.

Thanks

Hi,

I don't know if you've made your trip as of yet but Goldsmith's definitely rents clothing. Really no sense buying ski clothes if you don't need them other than the one trip. I live in BB so feel free to PM me if you have more questions!

My nine & 7 yo daughters are interested in learning to ski.

Where would you recommend for first time lessons?

Thinking of heading up on Friday.

Than you!

Hi flygirlmeg,

thanks for taking an interest in my question and your suggestion. Sadly, we did not make it to Big Bear this year. Ended up in Honolulu, Hawaii and will do a trip report soon. I had trouble deciding on accomodation for ski trip. Where to stay and types of accommodation got to confusing and so many were already booked out. I think I left it too late to book my choices.

We are going to try again for February 2014 as I'm still hooked on California. One week ski and one week Anaheim. Any chance you can think of some options for me? These are my preferences:

1. fit family of four, either hotel style or self contained

2. clean, modern (but not neccessarily flash )with fireplace and hot tub.

3. in town, walking distance to restaurants, shops etc

4 walking distance to transport to ski resort

5 a nice view or attractive style

Is there a shuttle or bus from town to the ski resort? I read something about it and then had trouble finding that information again. We will have a rental car but want to use it as little as possible to reduse stress of driving in unfamilar conditions.

Any ideas would be appreciated.
