Does anyone know if Airbnb is regulated in any way in Berkeley? Can someone who doesn't live in a home rent it out all the time like a hotel?
As of now, there are no additional taxes. However, it might help to consult a tax person. They are trying to change it, but nothing on the books as of now.
Consult a tax person ? The taxes are charged and to be paid by the landlord and not by the renter to The city.
Perhaps someone else who lives in the East bay may know or you can call the city as ask if you don't get a response
We have a DE for Berkeley. Please PM him as he may knowEdited: 16 March 2015, 17:01
Sorry, I didn't respond because I don't have a better answer than Rafo. Last year Berkeley talked about extending the transient occupancy tax to AirBNB rentals, but nothing has come out of it so far.
