Shandoor pass is open

Bonjour from Chitral,

I am just back from Chitral, In was in upper Chitral last week and according to news, the snow was cleared from Shandoor pass for light traffic but the NATCO officials told me the big buses'd start the service from Gilgit to Mastuj.

So now Chitral is connected to Gilgit-Baltistan through Shandoor pass.

Enjoy the marvels of Pakistan.

Normally this passed open in between 1st or 2nd May. Therefore, better to keep the schedules from mid May to onward for chitral or Gilgit for the reason to have smooth/safe driving.

NATCO buses are operating since 2007 from Gilgit to Mastuj and back to Gilgit. Bus leaves in the morning from each terminal around 9am and taking 8-9 hrs.

Bonjour from Peshawar,

They've been operating since 2006, when NATCO decided to operate the buses till Mastuj.

On the other hand, it takes some 12 to 14 hrs to reach Mastuj from Gilgit through Gahkuch, Gupis, Phandar, Shandoor pass and Sor Laspur.

NATCO started the land-cruiser service to Chitral in 2004 from Gilgit.

The buses from Jutial bus terminal leave for Mastuj at 8:00 AM in the morning.

Bon voyage..

Dear Eric,

Shandoor is a high pass, days are warm, afternoons are windy and nights are damn chilly.

A fleece or gore-tex jacket, a pair of socks, a sun block with good pH is necessary.

Bon voyage..

You could take a bus from Gilgit to Shandoor, NATCO runs the buses every morning.
