car rental insurance - a strange arrangement???

Hi All,

I've been told by one of the agencies that "in the north" insurance covers only "total damage"; for "partial damage" the client has to pay in full.

Is anyone familiar with this?

Is there any logic for it, other than put the client at a distinct disadvantage?

Do all agencies "in the north" adhere to this rule?

If anyone encountered this problem, how did you handle it?

Thx in advance,

(-:

'If you do it this way you'll have all insurances at European standard included.'

Not necessarily. Unless the agency has negotiated a special insurance arrangement with the rental provider, it's the latter's standard terms and conditions that apply to your booking, such as those of Hertz Argentina:

So always read the small print!

IME booking on the U.K. sites of most providers and agents results in the contract defaulting to the country in which the vehicle is hired.

Good point re the third party liability, I hadn’t really given that much attention. Possibly covered under a house contents policy though.

'Possibly covered under a house contents policy though'

No. It specifically excludes car-related claims. And holiday/travel insurance public liability cover excludes them too.
