After a few days in Porto and Lisbon, we are headed to Bergau and the Algarve for some hiking and biking. Then flying back to the US via Faro. We could take the train to Faro, then a cab to the airport and pick up a rental car for Bergau, looks like 60km drive, doubling back. We do want a car for exploring. Or, we could pick up a car at the Lisbon AP and drive straight to Bergau, leaving car at Faro when we fly home. Both are reasonable and equal in cost. Would it be worth it to wind our way down the coast and explore for the day on our way to Bergau? Or would we have to be on the toll highway instead? Recommended beach walks, towns, lunch on the way?
