Cansaulim to Margoa Train; General local tips

Hi all

Only a few weeks left before our break in South Goa and we are looking to to pack in as much as possible

We've heard we can get the train from Cansaulin station to Margo but can't find a useful time table. Does anyone know if the trains are regular?

I know it's easy to get a cab but we like to use local busses and trains when we can for the experience of it.

Also, can anyone recommend any DIY trips we can try? We prefer to use local people and not big tour operators if we can. We'd like to get out and see as much of the local side of Goa as possible.

Any info on the area at all is much appreciated

Many Thanks

Check out IRCTC website, sure it's the same train that

runs thru Majorda to Margao so there will be 2/3 every day.

Buses will be every 15/20 mins, stay clear of the taxis.

However Cansaulim pretty isolated so depending what and where

you want to go a night you will need a taxi, good luck cause 99%

of them will try to fleece you.

Brilliant thanks, I will look at that now. Yeah we’ve heard about the taxis and can do without the hassle of it to be honest. Do you know if the bus goes anywhere near cansaulim and Margoa it where the local busses go? Would much prefer to do this as I hear you see so much more travelling this way

Yeah, def 3 trains a day, morning, afternoon and early evening.

I would presume the bus you would take is the Vasco to Margao

one which goes thru Cansaulim, Utorda, Majorda Village and Nuvem.

There's a different bus for our lot as we stay beach side of Majorda

and that one goes via Betalbatim to Margao, however they all run

15/20 mins apart and will be around 10/15 rupess. The last one's are

generally back of 7pm / 8pm. Once you get to Margao you can go

anywhere you want by bus, a good trip is to head down to Palolem,

Patnem or Agonda area, to do that get the Canconna Bus either from

the Bus Stand in Margao or in City Centre area takes around an hour,

or perhaps go to Cavelossim which will take 30 mins.

When you turn off the “main” road to the Heritage the bus stops are at that junction, the taxi people on the rank have a price list so you know what the cost will be before you go, also the charge for waiting time. Not expensive by UK prices.

We paid 2500 for 4 if us. Driver picked us up at 7.30am, took us to the waterfalls, waited and dropped us back at around 3.30pm. We could have stayed out longer but we all tired. We set the price with him when we booked.
