Most years it rains about 10 times for about 1/2 hour each. The rain is usually big drops and part of a thunderstorm. The average rainfall is less than 200mm a year. Most years rain in Kgalagadi is not something to avoid. If you are there when it rains, it willl make you smile. I have seen people dance in the rain from the sheer joy of having seen rain in such a parched land.

This year is different. They have had a lot of rain. Twee Rivieren has received 145mm of rain so far this month, almost the annual rainfall in January alone. When will it end? Who knows?
