Best wilderness trails in Kruger Park in December?

We're going to spend 5 days in Kruger Park in mid-December, and we want to do a couple of drives and also a 2-night, 3-day wilderness hiking trail. What trail would you suggest for best game or predator viewing? And would you recommend we stay in the southern camps or in the middle part?

What do you mean by "mid-December"?

After the school holidays start - around Dec 12th - I doubt you will find places on any of the Wilderness trails. There will also be very little camp accommodation left - certainly in the popular camps. So, depending on your dates, the choice is dictated by availability rather than where you would like.

The first week and a half in December, before the schools break-up, will be much easier.

Let us know the exact dates and we can let you have better advice.

BTW the main aim of the Wilderness trail is not Big5 game viewing. It is well worthwhile quoting SANParks' concept of Wilderness trails :

"Although the KNP conduct trails in big five areas the main aim of these trails is to have a wilderness experience. The KNP Wilderness Trails cannot compete with other expensive luxury destinations as far as guaranteed game viewing and service is concerned but we can offer vast open spaces and a special kind of atmosphere that very few other destinations can match. Everybody nowadays offers big five as part of the package. Few can offer an experience of real bush exclusivity. KNP Wilderness Trails sees dangerous animals as part of the bigger picture and not the whole picture.

There are so much more to see and to experience and we focus not only on the big aspects of nature but also on the smaller things that most people miss when they only drive around. Being on foot makes you feel part of the environment and not removed from it when you spend your time in a vehicle. It tunes you in to all facets of nature because you can see, smell, hear, touch, feel and even taste wild things. Driving is a visual experience – walking is a sensual experience."

Thanks for the tips! We arrive on December 10 and have booked a couple of places to stay and a wilderness trail. Super excited and I look forward to posting our experience!
