Totally Untrue Fake News.
I do not know where you found that information but the last tourist killed by a shark was the unfortunate German tourist in March 2015 who was swimming at dusk.
There has been no shark attack recently and sharks rarely come in close. Although they do it is a very rare occasion.
Nearby swam a group of tourists from Austria, including 20-year-old girl. Something happened with her and Michael swam closer - look. In this place is usually sailed dolphins that sharks avoided. Where there did this and why she attracted her attention, no one understood. Whether a tourist fed fish or predator provoked by something else - is unknown. But the fact remains: the shark suddenly swam out and pulled from the left side of the abdomen diver piece of meat. When she cried out, Michael swam, injury held him, and then the Ukrainian had no choice, how to row. All this time, the shark circled around, but people got out. Lifeguard threw him to the pontoon circle.
Well I stand corrected then but hey it's the red sea yes there are sharks but rarely do they come in to shore.
So if the sharks worry you then do not go in the sea.
I would not be deterred at all but also no need to cause alarm about a shark attack.
The last incident was 2015 so 2 yrs is a pretty big gap to be overly concerned.
I would still enjoy my holiday.Edited: 06 August 2017, 18:04
And your point is?
A shark attack they happen and the tourist is not dead?
The relevance of unnecessary panic is?
Simple stay out of the sea.
As Jared says attacks are rare in the red sea as a whole and in this area and it would not stop me coming
I hope the girl recovers but i also hope there is no knee jerk reaction provoking a cull of sharks in the area
it is a tragic incident on more than one level for this area,
Unnecessary or otherwise, where is the panic?Edited: 06 August 2017, 19:23
Maybe it is due to my language but I do not understand the harsh reactions.
Some one asked it it was true that some one got attacked by a shark.
The answer is sadly enough yes.
Are people then not allowed anymore to ask questions?
Maenan. I am not saying no one can ask questions at all.
The last attack where a German was killed in a Shark Attack tragically was 2015.
Up until this attack last month is 2 years.
Sharks coming in close to shore is a very very rare thing.
It is just the Hysteria of people worrying about a big rise in shark attacks.
The tourist survived although not a pleasant event, I don't think it should put people off from holidaying or entering the sea.
Yes the OP asked about a shark attack I was not aware but would make no difference to myself.
If someone is highly concerned about sharks in the sea then maybe they should not enter the sea.
There are many things living on the coral that are also toxic and poisonous as in some fish and many jellyfish.
Personally I would not like a shark bite no but they lived in the sea long before we snorkelled or dived.
