Dolphin/Whale/Kayak type tours from Cabo Matapolo Proper

Hi all!

After researching different areas and with your help, my husband and I have booked a 10-day trip to the Osa Peninsula. Half the time will be in Dos Brazos, just west of Puerto Jimenez , the second half of the trip at the tip of the peninisula, within Cabo Matapalo, in a rented, private home near Lapa Rios.

My question is, are there any good tours that depart from the Cabo Matapalo region to go out on the water, instead of having to drive all the way back to Puerto Jimenez to depart? I've reached out to a couple of lodges in the area and gotten no's or vague responses. I'd rather avoid a bumpy ride back and forth once we get to our rental if possible. We're looking for tours of the Gulf for dolphin/whale watching.

Does anyone have any experience with guides closer to Cabo Matapalo?

As far as I know there are no safe anchorages for boats at the tip of cabo Matapalo while Puerto Jimenez has several well-protected harbors so that might make the difference with boat tours. For kayaks check out http://www.osa-tropical.com/kayaking/ which say they offer kayak tours out at Cabo Matapalo http://www.osa-tropical.com/matapalo/ but I also loved a sunset kayak trip in Puerto Jimenez through the mangroves south of town.

Thank you crfan - that was the response from a fisherman I tried to book a trip with. No good places to dock a boat. I was hoping it was still easy to rent a kayak and go out to explore. If not, looks like we may try to book a trip while staying closer in Dos Brazos. Thanks!

I would come back from Dos Brazos several days before you go to Matapalo and stay at Cabinas Jimenez in PJ. They have several great excursions into the Golfo Dulce. The wildlife sancuary is awesome. The mangrove kayaking is good also and the sunset dolphin ride is beautiful. If that won't work, stop at Cabinas Jimenez and make reservations for some of their excursions and then make the drive back to PJ from Matapalo. The ride is bumpy but beautiful! The Golfo Dulce is on one side of the road and beautiful greenery and trees on the other side. If you take your time and look, wildlife is abundant. I live in Dos Brazos and love to come to PJ and drive down to Matapalo!

maybe give van at http://tucanterra.com/index.html am email. he has a boat suitable for what you want and may be able to rent kayaks if his own guests aren't using them.
