Itinerary

We are coming to Costa Rica for three weeks. We will be flying into SJO on a Sunday picking up friends at the airport on Friday.

We have booked three nights in La Fortuna and are trying to figure out how to spend the next three days.

Wanting to see some new country we have been all over the Pacific coast from Nicaragua to Panama. Just wondering if there were some ideas out there of where to spend three days before going back to San Jose to pick up our friends .?

All ideas and thoughts would be appreciated thank you.

It might depend on your interests (beach?, volcanoes?, nature?, etc.) and where you will be on Friday night and into Saturday.

If you're into beaches and are heading south, Jaco has a decent beach but the waves are large. It's also has a party vibe. Dominical is more laid back with rocky beaches with smaller waves and monkeys and toucans that fly into trees near your condo. Manuel Antonio has better beaches that can get crowded.

If you're going north/west, many folks love Tamarindo (I've never been there). I like Playas del Cocos but it's a four hour trip from and to SJO. Many places on the Nicoya Peninsula like Montezuma, Santa Maria and Samara are nice as well.

Those were some ideas just off the top of my head. If you provide more info, perhaps someone can guide you further If you've never been to Costa Rica, you'll love it.

Pura Vida.

If you haven’t visited Monteverde’s cloudforest yet, that would be the obvious stop to minimize total driving time. You could then head to the beach with friends when they arrive on Friday. If you’ve already explored Monteverde, take a look at Bijagua/Tenorio Volcano/Rio Celeste which is a wildlife rich area. Or head to Sarapiqui, roughly 90 minutes east of Arenal to enjoy rafting, wildlife viewing and a chocolate tour at Tirimbina Reserve.

OP is coming for 3 weeks, has 3 nights in La Fortuna and is asking about 3 nights before picking up friends. It would be helpful if OP would list the itinerary for the rest of the trip.

Myrth, I agree with Post 3 that it would be good to know which areas you will be visiting with your friends, to suggest different areas for in between Arenal/La Fortuna and that itinerary.

A working farm then for foodies - how about La Anita Rainforest Lodge - working farm and learn how to make chocolate - essential ingredient for every foody :-)). And the other working farm noted by a lot of posters on the forum - Casitas Tenorio. Both great spots for 3 days, Berni

Monteverde ofer some great farm ours...since they are agriculture oriented since the was founded.

You can check with Don Juan Chocolate and coffee tours

Refugio ecologico, Rodriguez farm.

Finca Madre Tierra

Suitinable farm.

Monteverde has a long history of farmers since 1950 that Quakers settle down up there, most of them from Mobile Alabama, running from the USA army that was looking for people to go to the Corean war.

They started some dairy farms...and until today...dairy products from the area are incredible...nice to hike around and talk to loclas
